I am deathly afraid of fire alarms. its messed up. i go paranoid and worrry everyday if our school is gonn ahve a fire drill, and i even cover my ears on bad days. not only this, but seeing kids fool around with big baloons freaks me out and a worry about if it'll pop really loud. i think i have anxiety issues relating to sudden loud noises, because i can black loud music and see roaring military aircraft, as long as i know when it'll happen. help?:D

well there are two:
Ligyrophobia - Fear of loud noises.
Phonophobia - Fear of noises, loud sounds, voices, one's own voice, or of telephones.
i think you might be more ligyrophobic, but you are only ligyropobic at sudden noises, not ones that you are expecting. hope i helped

It seems more of a noise phobia, as beedubs said. It mostly seems like Ligyrophobia. A friend suffers from it. It can sometimes be hard for her to deal with.
Or... It could just be you don't like loud noises and are worries about it happening. I hate loud noise.

I used to have the same problem, especially with balloons. I dunno what it is, but it can be really horrible. I'm glad I'm mostly over it now!

I don't think this is a phobia.
Phobias prevent someone from doing everyday life. If you screamed, ran around, and vomitted or some stuff like that during sudden loud noises, that'd be different. But feeling anxious and covering your ears isn't a big deal. Maybe the anxiety to explain is just anticipation. When I hold a balloon in my hand and squeeze it, I feel my heart rate go up anticipating the loud pop. But, this is not a phobia. You have to realize that your anxiety about this is irrational and that the loud noises can do nothing to hurt you, so there is no need to feel a fear.

I agree with Addison. I think you're a normal human being: your body has a reaction to a loud sound when you're not expecting it.

thanks so much guys. its not phonophobia, and for ligyrophobia, i love loud noises when i know theyre happening. so maybe peaceloverugby is right, its just my natural responses, just perked up a little more then the average person.
