What's the difference between implicitly and explicitly expressed values? I looked them both up but they both seem to have the same definition to me. Can anyone explain it better? : )

In psychology, they may show the same value but the mode of expression and how they are objectively measured differ. Explicitly-expressed values are ones that can be observed through person-to-person interaction, such as interviews. Implicitly-expressed values are ones that people hold in their minds without intending to make them known to others. For example, if you're at a party and the people there support gay rights but you don't, you may tell others that you do (explicit) but in actuality, you don't (implicit). The explicit and implicit values are not always the same. In order to test the implicit values, the most common, inexpensive and pretty accurate way is to do an implicit attribution test (IAT). The best way to really understand the difference though is to see it or experience it so CLICK HERE FOR AN IAT (https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/demo/). Once you have done it, you can easily understand how implicitly-expressed values differ from the openly or explicitly-expressed values.
