I need to write an essay but I never know how to start them. If anyone can suggest maybe a sentence or two just to get me started I'd really appreciate it :D
It's for my Extension 1 English and the essay question is:
"Romantic poetry has influenced values and ideas presented in modern Australian poetry
To what extent is this statement true?
Choose one poem (I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud) by a romantic poet (William Wordsworth) you have studied in class. Consider your chosen poem and a poem by Bruce Dawe (Homo Suburbiensis)
Like I said, even just one opening sentence would be really helpful ^_^
Thanks :)

If you had specified the type of essay your instructor requested, then helping you would have been easier.
If you're going to write a standard five paragraph essay then simply start with an introduction. The introduction would be organized like a "road map" for your essay beginning with a restatement of your topic.
Otherwise, just start with a thesis statement which, again, is just a sort of "road map" for your entire essay.
What I mean by a road map is that you will write your paper in the order your thesis statement is written.
Hope this helps.

I know that my English teacher always yells at me for starting my essays out with specifics. So perhaps start as general as possible and then gradually get more specific until you reach your thesis? (My apologies if this is totally unhelpful.)

It would help if you could state your own opinion about the statement so that we know which side you're on.
I'm not too great with intros myself. Your first sentence should be like a teaser, giving a little bit of something but not enough so you have to continue reading in order to get the while idea. After that, just summarize what you're going to put in your body paragraphs and maybe add some more info as to what exactly your essay is about and the last sentence should be the point that you're trying to get across. So:
Teaser-1 sentence
What essay is about-1 to 2 sentences
^^ I think this is the main part you need help with.
I doun't suggest using this one but here's some inspiration:
"Through many poetic generations, poetry has evolved and with it has influenced changes in the modern society that we currently live in."
