View Full Version : PM Limit?

Chevy
May 5th, 2010, 11:56 PM
To be able to send private messages your post count must be 100 or greater. You currently have 81 posts.

You currently may only PM staff members listed HERE.

Wow WTF. Are you guys so paranoid about camming that you guys set the PM limit to 100? What about the people who want to use it for legit reasons? 100 posts is too much. 50 maybe is high enough. Why not just disable PM's for all members?

Bougainvillea
May 5th, 2010, 11:58 PM
Because it's a privilege.
And camming is a big deal.
Especially with younger members, which would then make it a legal issue.

Deal with it.

Kaius
May 5th, 2010, 11:59 PM
The number of people that used private messages for camming greatly out weighed the people using it legitimately. Therefore as we also brought the visitor messages back we thought it would be better to increase it as to decrease he problem of cammers and picture traders. Considering this is a help site mainly, full of young and vulnerable people this is the best way we came up with to handle the situation. Also the spamming to 25 post's issue was becoming a real nuisance.

Chevy
May 6th, 2010, 12:10 AM
If you guys think they will spam to get to 25 how much spam are you guys expecting now.

Bougainvillea
May 6th, 2010, 12:11 AM
Well, they're more likely to just give up.
25 is an east target.

Kaius
May 6th, 2010, 12:11 AM
We'll be able to catch them out much easier now or they'll just give up. The idea was thought through before being put into place although there may be some things that need ironing out we can deal with later.

Maverick
May 6th, 2010, 12:22 AM
Use visitor messaging or use the chat room. People who want to communicate still have mediums available.

Are you guys so paranoid about camming that you guys set the PM limit to 100?

Pretty much...considering its highly illegal and highly dangerous.

And PMing is a privledge, you earn it. I guess ant would have no problem turning it off for members.

So please do us a favor and stop f****** complaining.

dude, it is not that hard to get to a hundred posts. if you tried, it could take 3 days. and camming is a MAJOR problem, if i remember, there was more camming pmming going on then legit stuff.

You just proved one of his points, so props to him.
Don't EVER encourage spamming as a way to attempt circumventing site policy, they could get in severe shit for that crap.

The policy is in place for a good reason.
Its not going anywhere
I assure you anthony won't budge for a few pissed off n00bs

He didn't actually encourage spamming, it's true. You can make 100 high quality posts in 3 days.

Op: If they spam their way to 100 posts, then they just get banned before they get the chance to get to 100. I much prefer the higher limit.

meh... i think its unfair wat if ur friends with people on here and u actually want to have a conversation with them without the whole world knowing?? make it 50 or 75 :)

Kaius
May 6th, 2010, 04:14 PM
Again, the amount of cammers out weighed the amount of genuine conversations between people so the privilege was taken away. like various other people have said, its not hard to get 100 posts without spamming in a few days. It's for the safety of the people on this site, and thats what we have to take into consideration.

Well, if you're friends with people on here. Then you will of most likely added them on Msn (or skype, Aim, yahoo etc..) so you don't need 100 posts to talk to them. If not, then just get the posts....

What kind of conversation are you having that you can't have via VMs?

Thats the problem.

Use your brains and stop complaing.

Honestly, I do feel 100 is a little excessive. People with problems may want help without putting the full details out there for everyone to see. I personally feel 100 would be good for sending a new pm, while replying should be doable at any post count. I don't know if that's possible with the mechanics of the boards, if it is not doable then I apologize.

Antares
May 6th, 2010, 05:43 PM
If you can reply to a PM, it defeats the purpose of not being allowed to send one.

Replying and sending exactly the same thing.

No it's not. It prevents new members from messaging random people, trolling for pics, while allowing people to respond to messages from people who want to help you with whatever issue you have posted about. People may find this website only when they're in the middle of a crisis. Having someone send you a PM may offer a glimpse of hope. If you can't reply and carry on a conversation, that hope may disappear.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

That would help if it weren't just the new members doing it. Besides they can still pm staff if they really need help they won't have a problem doing it.

It wouldn't be fair for everyone to loose the privalleges of PM's because you can't get enough posts, or don't like the new requirement. Everyone on this site had to get the required post to PM, so you will too.

Sorry if you don't like it.

It's actually nice not having new people PMing me asking for cam or just being plain annoying with the "asl". At least nembies have some time to grow out of that phase before they PM, hopefully.

Antares

Either way, if people have an issue, they can post a thread about it.

And if all that has to happen for camming or something to occur is to have the person with PMs send a message to someone that doesnt.

That kinda defeats the purpose of banning it for 100> people.

Lets just stop complaining n00by members and deal with it.

Once again, if you don't like it, find somewhere else to go instead of spamming the HQ and suggestions forums and the mod PM inboxes saying the same damn thing.

That would be much tougher on most people that become active members of the site than the present 100 posts rule.

All you need is 9 posts and you can pm again. Also like I said before it's NOT just new members doing it and you really don't need this site just to pm people. What's so important that you have to pm it and can't leave a visitor message?

It didn't occur to me that people with over 100 posts would try the caming shit. I apologize. Guess I underestimated the stupidity of our more established members. But that makes me wonder if the 100 post limit is of any use. Does it appear to have cut the amount of caming requests? Whats the approximate # of caming requests prevented versus the number of legitimate PMs prevented? This is a legitimate question. I just am wondering if the new policy is really helping.

Maverick

Why PM when you have chat rooms, visitor messages, and public forums? if you have a problem, ask multiple people for their input, rather than one person who might not know the answer. Rules are rules, so get with the program or find a new one.

No we don't, but it's in the members safety that the pm limit is there. You may not be a cammer no, doesn't mean that you should get special treatment just because you don't like the rule. It's not hard to post like 10 more, use vms and the chat room if you really want to talk to people. When you get to 100 I hope you have fun with that.

No it's not that hard to pm search, but again. It's in the members interest that the rule was changed. You may not like, but those that have been members longer know that this is the best way to stop shit happening. Just post a bit more, it's not hard to get 100 without spamming.

For one, if I happen to see you insult a member of staff or even a member again you will be infracted for it. As for the spamming to 100 posts, they are monitored and their post count will be decreased and possibly infracted if we catch them, which is 99% of the time. Anyone who does not like the private messaging limitation can live with it for now, its for the safety of members on this site. As others have stated you have other means of communication its not as though we are stopping you from helping others or asking other people questions, this is what VM's are for. Private messaging is a privilege not a right, so if you do not like the sites rules then there are plenty of other places you can go instead of complaining over something everyone else has learnt to live with. The site does not revolve around you, and just because you are not here to cam does not mean there aren't others.

Proving insulting people is wrong by insulting people, eh?

Why are you still here if the PM limit is such a big deal?

Maybe the reason why you were 'insulted' is because you came in here, with even less than 100 posts, demanding that we change something that is working just fine, but of course...you wouldn't know that, you've barely got 100 posts. Learn about the system, then criticise it.

Still amongst this, your best response to the previous post is a 'he started it D:' debate? You are just being ignorant by ignoring the majority of points brought forward.
