I was wondering what those of you who can speak from experience think about taking either the ACT or the SAT. I took the ACT and did rather well on it, but I'm wondering if I would do better on the SAT. Which one do colleges like? And if you took both, which did you do better on? Thanks :)

I prefer the ACT. I did the practice one and did better on that than the PSAT

Im a Junior right now so I guess im fairly educated on this.

First thing that kinda factors is the geographical location. The ACT is administered more commonly in the central part of the country while the SAT is more common on the coasts however, if you take the SAT, you may need to take a few subject tests.
On the ACT, you will probably just need to take writing and then you are done. So personally, I would advise the ACT, especially if you feel like you did better on it.

Colleges accept both generally though.

Additionally, the only real difference is that the ACT focuses on the stuff that you have learned in school and the SAT is more of a common sense thing. Also the SAT doesn't test science while the ACT does. Other than that, no huge difference.
ACT has some trig and the SAT doesn't.

That's why I think I might do better on the SAT. I'm more of a "English/History" guy than a "Math/Science" type.

I guess that could be a good strategy for you but you will probably end up having to take about 3 subject tests...good thing about that is you get to choose which subjects to test in

I took the SAT, ACT, and 3 subject tests all recently. Personally, I found the ACT to be the easiest for me. The way the SAT is given totally throws me off.. I like how the ACT doesn't constantly flip between subjects (math, english, reading, english again, reading again, math again, etc).

why don't you take both? colleges like both, the really don't always look at them, more focus on the grades because if someone who doens't do wel in school does well on the SAT and colleges look at that, bhen they just got a slacker, then there are others who don't do well on SATs or ACTs and well they don't get the student they really wanted to get. if that makes sense... hoep that sort of helps. people do someitmes well on one tst then the other you should do both .
