Through the fire of life
I saw an ember escape,
Through the veiled silence of night
I heard a whisper escape.
The spark spread across the lake
And the water, once blue-gray
Ignited into red, orange, white,
Intense burning, the hottest, brightest light.
The lake once full of joy and love,
Evaporated to the sky above,
Left a hollow, empty shell,
A crater in the ground,
Reminiscent of the depths of hell.
The silence shattered by a meek whisper
In the night, the visage of peace
Shattered like butter sliced by a knife,
Collapsing slowly like the dams of eternity,
Water won't stop flowing, but the flames won't stop burning.
I heard that whisper from miles away,
I saw that lake dry up from far out in the distance,
I saw a light in the sky, it glistened,
I listened, but the whisper was dead
And my head spun on its axis,
I felt like an owl, 'cept the wisdom, I lacked it.
I saw flames engulf the vast green forest,
The trees to ashes and the brush to dust,
Nothing left but a pile of snuff,
Some kid will get high off of nature's deluxe.
The fire will die, but I'll still be alive,
Watching the fire of life,
Through the veiled silence of night,
I'll hear sounds of infliction,
But also, sounds of delight.
I saw an ember escape,
Through the veiled silence of night
I heard a whisper escape.
