I've just been -Repped for something that I genuinely believe was not a warrent for one. I was wondering (since I've heard from someone else once that they reversed one of their -Rep points) if it's possible to speak to someone to get it reversed if they agree, or if -Reps truly are permanent.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, PM an Admin and they'll check it out for you and they'll reverse it if they think it's been given unfairly

Thanks for the quick response.

You should note, however, that just because you disagree with the reason for a rep does not mean it deserves to be reversed. Rep reflects someone else's opinion of your post. Unless the system is being abused to attack you or somehow otherwise subverted, your disagreeing with someone's opinion or considering it unfair is not grounds for reversal.

Well. That can be argued. Say If I posted somewhere That I was an atheist. Then someone -reps me just because I'm an atheist and writes a comment, something along the line of an insult. That could offend me.

All you can do is pm either of the admins with why you think its unfair and then abide by their judgement. I know from experience that they do reverse -rep if they agree its unfair.

The only reason they will be reversed is only if the system has been abused. So PM the admin with an appropriate reason why it should be deleted and they will probably delete it and warn/infract the offending user.

People shouldn't abuse the rep system

It can't, really.

Note the bolded part. In your hypothetical example, the rep would be reversed because of the insult, not the fact that you disagree with it. For example, I've had people downrep me for making arguments they disagreed with; despite the fact that I thought and think I was right, that alone is not grounds for reversal of the rep. See what I'm saying?

Reversing -rep is a grey area really. It all depends on if the system itself has been abused and/or the Admins opinion.

For example, I've had -rep that I feel is unfair and unjust. However it wasn't removed because the admin didn't agree with me. Your best bet is just to Pm an admin and see if they will remove it - it's worth a try.

Thanks again for the responses. Fortunately for me, my -Rep was indeed reversed.
