i know that this may have already been mentioned in a previous thread but i just couldn't be bothered to search for it :P
when people in general talk about acne, do they mean just pimples or blackheads as well? in the last few months my skin has gone from dry like my dad's to really oily like my mum's (damn maltese :D ) generally i don't have many pimples (except on the rare occasion if i break out before a period) but i have heaps of blackheads, mostly on my chin and back. they feel yucky :( it's a bit hard for me at the moment to scrub my face because i'm recovering from 8 teeth extractions and my face still hurts :'( but is there anything that i can do, like steam and then a gentle scrub or something? and what's the best way to deal with bad acne on your arms, shoulders and back?

Hot showers. (:
Really hot water will open up all of your pores in your skin, then use sunlight soap or other soaps with vitamins and minerals it them, I'll get a list for you at some stage.
But yea, soak your skin in hot water, then just wash it lightly, or scrub it, with a face-washer or towel of some form with soapy water. Nothing ever works straight away, but test different things for a few days, try a combination of things and hopefully it will work out to keep your skin unoily and blemish free. ^_^
Here are some "Home Made" remedies, because sometimes the advertised things on Television don't work:
Warm salty water will stop your skin from being oily, wash your skin twice a day with such liquids and you should be all good. Make sure your skin doesn't dry out.
Massaging your skin with lemon skin apparently helps, then wash it with luke-warm water.
Eat all your healthy foods and vegetables. Try and drink as much water as possible, rather than soft drinks. A healthy diet is incredibly important, as it'll also help with development, prevent any illnesses and it can also help with mood swings.
If you have any 'popped' or gross acne spots, apply Aloe Vera to it, this will speed up the healin process.
Find foods and things with Vitamin B5 and Zinc in them.
Rubbing freash garlic around the pimple, black head or acne location. Consistency wears off.
Put toothpaste on the spots over night, this will reduce swelling and build up. Make sure you wash your face or the locations in the morning... ^_^
Use an oatmeal or almond mask throughly to cleanse your face. Mix either oatmeal or almond powder with enough rose water to make a soft paste that spreads easily on the skin. Rub it on your skin with your fingertips, paying special attention the problem areas. Leave to dry for about 15 minutes and then rinse off with cold water. This is very good in getting rid of blackheads.
This could work. I've never tried it, but if you ever have a bowl of porridge, add some rose water and dip your face into it. ^_^

Usually if something is a "home acne remedy" or something similar, it's not going to work. You can't rub goat piss on your face and chant at the stars and have your acne clear up overnight. :p
Personally, I have cystic acne. That's about the worst sort you can get. It's not always just pimples, but painful and unsightly cysts that are like small boils. I take tetracycline for them and the acne in general. If you feel your acne is bad enough, asking your doctor to put you on something like tetracycline might be a good idea.
The only thing about tetracycline is that you can't take it for 2 hours after eating and you can't eat for 1 hour after taking it. If you're taking it 4 times a day, you have to take it every 6 hours, so chances are, you'll have to be woken up in the middle of the night to take it. If your doctor puts you on a more manageable and arguably more suitable 2-3 doses a day, it will be more manageable.
Just my two cents.

I have facial and back acne as well. It is quite annoying. I know there are a few ways to get rid of body acne, but I don't know any off of the tip of my tounge. Here (http://www.acne.org/back-acne.html) is a site with a few tips on how to get rid of it.
As for facial acne, I use overnight cream. It works while you sleep, and I notice a pretty big difference after a few nights. For some reason, it seems to just work better than others. They have quite a few at Wal-Mart.
