GovTeen was originally started in 1998 by Sam Alexander and his wife, Carol. At the time, it was called VirtualKid, or VK, colloquially.

After COPPA became effective in 2000, controversy rose up over the name containing the word "kid." The site was going to be renamed VirtualTeen, but that was taken by an adult entertainment site, and thus began GoVirtualTeen, or as it has come to be known in the last 5 years, GoVTeen, or GovTeen.

The version after VK("gov1") is known as Gov2. Gov2 fell as a community due to poor administration. Two members of that administration left to make their own site, which is a totally un-affiliated site known as vTeen.

Josh, what an individual.
He caused many a debate here on VT, clashed with many members but always always always he had the best interests of members at heart. Always wanting to protect the vulnerable, people society would cast aside. He created a home for people that wider society would not understand VT; and at its heart The Psychiatric Ward. This section was VT's purpose way back in the day.
I had the pleassure of working with him when I was an Admin and from those of us who knew him he is missed.

I realise this is going off topic, but Josh deserves recognition whenever possible I think.

I was admin at the time Josh stepped down and thats all he did was he stepped down.
Sam died. Josh didn't.
