soo, firsty I'm new & my name's Allison =)

but anyways, this is my problem.

I get my period whenever it damn well pleases.

It USUALLY lasts for a couple days, extremely heavy ( like going through a super tampon in an hour) & extreme cramps where I can sometimes not move. Then, it'll go away for a day & come back to finish up the week.

But, I've had my period for 2 weeks straight, gone months without having it (def. wasn't pregnant).

My mom said she'd get me the BC where you only get it 4 times a year. I'm considering it, I'm just nervous about not letting my body naturally cleanse itself, even though I'm so sick of this.

& just got it today, 2 days before Prom ..not exactly thrilled.

the first thing that comes to mind is PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) but thats only because my SIL has it and it sounds like similar symptoms. she told me that since she started getting periods they have never been a "regular" 28 day cycle, but anywhere from a 45 to 75 day cycle. even after having a baby 2 years ago, they still aren't regular.
it can also depend on how long you've had your period for. its really common for the cycle to be irregular for the first year or more. i'm really lucky in that respect - mine have always been regular.
i'd have to agree with you on the BC. just a bit of info, my friend got the "rod" and she had a period for 18 days (heavy) then a break of 3 days then 23 days (heavy) and all i could think was "is it really worth it?" but, of course, its your decision - no judgement :)
and i know exactly how pissed off you must be - my period came while i was AT my formal

Although I agree with Lucille's post above me, there isn't always a medical reason for why your periods are irregular. You haven't given us any information as to how long you've been getting your period for, but a lot of girls find that their periods are often irregular for the first few years and then it settles down. Some get it more than normal for example every two weeks, others get it less than normal, twice/four times a year etc. The best thing you can do is to talk to your doctor about it. I've attached a link here (http://kidshealth.org/teen/sexual_health/girls/irregular_periods.html) to something I found when looking around for more information, hope it helps.
