Hey guys,

This is my first time posting something about general health so i hope this is the right section. I have a problem and I was wondering if anyone's ever experienced anything similar.

For the past few weeks, I have had trouble breathing. I have periods of having to concentrate heavily on my breaths and take really deep ones to even feel alright. The feeling is hard to describe, but the concentration on breathing takes all of my focus. I was wondering if i could be developing asthma or some other type of breathing disorder? I'm nearly positive I have an anxiety disorder which could factor into this, but i've never been tested.

Also, the breathing and anxiety over it are contributing to a very bad case of insomnia. It's 1am right now and i've been trying to fall asleep for the past hour. I got 3 hours of sleep last night after passing out to Nyquil, something i'll cover in a second. Basically, no matter how tired I am, my entire body stays awake to keep myself breathing. I'm getting increasingly frustrated with myself at night.

Nyquil. Whenever I can't sleep (after a couple hours of trying) I end up taking it. I just take the recommended dosage, but it allows me to pass out and fall asleep calmly. I'm not sure the health risks of this, but i'm concerned that i'm becoming addicted to its effects.

Basically, sleep is something I know I need. The fact that i'm not getting it makes me angry and upset with myself, and I need help. The recent asthma development isn't helping either.

Any and all help is appreciated!

Well, I have asthma so I can relate to how you feel about your lack of sleep. It happens to me quite often. Try meditating, it's helped me in the past. Also, drink alot of water.

But meditating doesn't always work. Contact your doctor about how you can't get to sleep because of your breathing, and request that they test you to see if you have asthma. If you do, It's nothing to play around with. There's meds that can help you and I reccomend that you get on them. Yes, they do have very irritating side effects, but they help.

As for taking the Nyquil, I've heard that it's addictive. Try not to take it any more.

It sounds to me like you're either quite nervous about something which is causing internal muscle cramps around your chest, you've got some odd eptopic heart beats (ones which don't fit into your normal rhythm) which could possibly be causing you to feel a bit short of breath as some people notice this more than others (I saw this happen the other day) or it could be something altogether different.

Go and see your doctor as they'll be able to offer better advice than we can.
