I was on another forum today, and I seen where they have a user name changer. Members can change there own names, without bothering the admins and having them to do it.

Could it be possible for VT to have it?

it would cause confusion among members and staff if members could keep changing their username. there is nothing wrong with the current system. it doesnt need to be changed as it could cause confusion if members could keep changing their username. if you wish to change your username it only takes 1 minute to pm an admin.

Well if you keep the 3 month rule it will hardly cause any more confusion than the current system of changing names does. Apart from the fact that more people might do it.

I honestly think it would be a good idea to have a profile field to state all of one's prior usernames. Swear that's been suggested some time in the past, but can't seem to find where it is now.

i don't think i'd like that idea of knowing the old usernames. i change mine for paranoia purposes of people finding me... its safe to stay anonomous when you are chanign your username

On the original question, the existing pm system seems to work perfectly well so I dont see the need to change it. It also give the admins a degree of control if somebody was to request some really unsuitable name (probably never happens, but you never know).

The wording of the rule is such that it only applies between name changes, not from your joining date. Its a bit vague, but people have been able to make their first name change sooner than 3 months. So my advice would be no harm in asking.

I am still in favor of the 3 month rule. All it is, is a name changer so the admins don't have too. It's like Govteen's. You change it your self, but if its not within the set time frame, you can't change it.

This is all i could find and judging by the replies it looks like it'll work with VB 3.8.2 at least so maybe it'll work for us too.

ive as of tonight gotten my friend to tell me hell modify an easy to install add on so we can use it if we want. hes made hacks and mod on vbulletin software before and this should be done by this time next week. hes specifically modifying it for this version of vbulletin. So hopefully this could sort the problem

I know for the fact the one for 4.0 won't work because template and coding syntax have changed a lot between vBulletin 3 and 4. The one for 3.5 might work but will need some testing.
