Marching on to our new destination
Everyone's calm; enjoying the light of day
And the sounds of night
Never thinking of what is to be

On the horizon, floating poles of cloth
On these cloth, they depict the Gaul battle flag
People are confused
Wondering why this is

Ten minutes later, the Gaelic general is in sight
Issuing his troops orders
Formations and tactics

We scramble for formation; fixing our shields and finding our pila
We're prepared but anxious
We hear a bugle and think, "It's starting?"
Waves of missiles come from above
We move into formation to prevent casualties

The first wave of Gaelic troops are rushing us
We're prepared; we throw our pila into them
Thinning their ranks slowly, but efficiently
Some men start to rout, but they're here

The tides have turned; we're now the routing rabbits
The general isn't in site. Where could he have possibly of gone?
I see some equites coming to our aid
But it's too late
The Gauls won't rout

We were told the Gauls were inferior Barbarians who were easy to beat
But that was a lie
Here we are taking defeat from our Gaelic counterparts
Why is this?
We're Romans, not ordinary men

Another bugle sounds
The General is alive, contrary to my thoughts
Hope is here
He's leading into battle with his body guards
Somehow, Gauls start to rout
The majority are fleeing back north
But their general is still here and calls them "cowards"

Our archers come back into formation
They start to fire upon the Gaelic general
But it's too late. Our gallant general has fallen
Even with that loss, we won this battle
But I am curious as to how I survived that battle

We march on. We march with many casualties
Our general may be dead, but his spirit still lives on

We now arrive at our destination
The governor is displeased at our results
But thanks us, none the less
He welcomes us to our new home
Even though our new home won't be under Roman control forever...

I felt like writing a poem about war. This is what I came up with. I tried to make it not too long, so I didn't add many things about the battle. Feedback would nice; maybe I'll even write a sequel. :P
