this may be a stupid question... can someone tell me what the difference is between depression and bipolar? cause the stuff ive read they're both pretty similar...?

In a nut shell: Depression, you're just sad. Bipolar, you swing back and forth between two extremes (Euphoria and utter sadness).

It's a lot more complicated than that. For more details, go look at Wikipedia and the DSM-IV. The DSM-IV actually what defines the disease so it's a better resource, but Wikipedia might be more understandable.
