I've not listened to a song by them (unless I've heard an unnamed one on the radio), but some folks I know say they're a pretty all right band. I'll have to download an album of theirs and update this post in the coming weeks.

A7X are amazing! Waking The Fallen is a masterpiece of an album, and Remenissions is probably my favorite song off the album, actually out of all their albums it's my favorite song. I'm going to miss The Rev though.

Old stuff metalcore, new stuff is hard rock. They've never said they are a punk band. The Ramones and Sex Pistols are punk bands, A7X aren't. How do they suck anyway?

Ok when you have to heavily distort your guitars and speed up the sound of you drums to make the sound you want. Then your not a good musician. I garuntee you that the speed that which a AV7 plays at with distortion which is fast is much slower then john butler with no distortion and finger picking... That is a sign of a sad musician when you can't keep up even with help. Plus I've seen some live videos and they are some of they slowest guitar players finger wise.

We're Avenged Sevenfold and we're here to bring you guitar wankery, be complete sell outs, get rich, and not be original at all! Fuck yeah!
As in the words of the Sputnik review (http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/13956/Avenged-Sevenfold-Avenged-Sevenfold/)for their self titled album, "If I’ve ever heard a lazier album, it probably was so bad I pushed it out of my memory, because I cannot recall a record that feels so half assed, so phoned in, so done for the money. While you can’t fault A7X for making their music way more catchy on the previous album, you can fault them for doing the same exact things for the second time in a row, when it wasn’t even all that great the first time through. They recycle the same exact riffs, lead guitar lines, and glam rock solos in the guitar department, the same drum-trigger reliance that while cool sounding at first gets incredibly annoying, and bass work that invokes the spirit of Metallica’s great bass record …And Justice for All.
What truly spoils this album even more than the fact that even the guitarists (one of the few redeeming factors previously) are stuck in a totally uncreative rut is that M. Shadows has gone from having swagger to being the living vocal embodiment of a douchebag. Seriously; there are singers who just from their attitudes and singing style you want to have a beer with, and Shadows used to vaguely seem like that. Now, Shadows makes you pissed off that he can sound so smug and high and mighty, plus he hasn’t progressed a lick besides the self assurance. Take a look at “Scream” his ode to rough-as-*** sex. He goes through the song by the numbers, getting throaty when you expect him to and ‘screaming’ as he proclaims “You know I make you wanna scream, scream, screaaaaaam”.
What makes the album even worse is lyrically, it has all the depth of Justin Timberlake’s newest album, except pretending to be actually serious. Yeah, A7X have had songs about vampires before, and yeah they used to talk about the end of the world ala Revelations, so they couldn’t get much cheesier. When one of your best moments is “I’ve reached towards the sky/I’ve said my goodbyes” and your lyrical worst is a declaration that you’re an amazing lover, well you really don’t have a giant range quality wise. You pretty much suck through and through."
That and the Brokencyde review are some of my favorite reviews of all times.

Meh, they may have an incredibly annoying "image" and pretty weird lyrics...
but I'll still listen to it. It's my kind of music, y'know.
They're not a historic or super-awesome band, by far, but they're above average in a world with Biebers and Jonas Brothers.

I don't see what the big deal is about "originality", or "mediocrity", or "Amateurish", I mean seriously, if they sound good, listen to them. Period.

Meh, whether something is "good" is purely objective. From your point of view, A7X is a terrible shit band, from mine they're an okay metal band.

Because Avenged Sevenfold repeat things that they've played before, just change the lyrics a little bit each time. It's just that give me the money I've got a bunch of thirteen year old fans now routine allot of bands like Nickelback and Creed play. I don't like that.
Being Original means you created something most people haven't though of and is something interesting. Avenged Sevenfold doesn't fit this.
They don't make good music because they have proven to play the same style, same riffs, same old bullshit each album. M. Shadows is an egotistical fucking dipshit anyways with his badass screaming mucho man thing he has going on.

Care to elaborate why you think they're good?

Care to elaborate why you think they're good?
Because their music fits the genres I enjoy listening to. That doesn't mean they're "talented" or technically good, but I find their music catchy and similar to other music I listen to.
A7X is nowhere near as good as Maiden, or Metallica, or Megadeth for example, but they're not absolutely terrible in my opinion. They're pretty average.

Well to be honest, most bands do have a sound that they keep. but A7X change their sound much more than other bands. Some bands like BMTH, Suicide Silence and even Metallica! can be classed as just using the same template for a song, change a guitar solo a bit, extence a chourus and change lyrics. most of the album ..And Justice For All, sound the same. but I still listen to them and like them. cause I like thier sound. and a7x have changed loads since the begginging of their music. From loud screaming and heavy musical kick ass songs, to more relaxed songs that are great at listening to on a long car trip whilst still doing energetic songs! If you want the full A7X experince you have to see them live. They have sold out shows and loads of sevenfoldists wanting to be entertained for a few hours, an experience that would be remembered forever!
But each to their own. I love A7X personaly.
