Should Europe be considered a continent? Y'know, since it isn't a large landmass like Asia or Africa.

I feel that it shouldn't be a continent. It should either be a sub continent, or Asia and Europe should just form one continent called "Eurasia", as some call certain parts already. Now, I know that would never happen since Asia and Europe have two vastly different cultures.

I just don't feel that Europe is large enough (unless you consider all of Russia :P) to be a continent.

The only reason I can see it being a separate continent because it has vastly different cultures and languages. But, you can say that about Africa. Another reason is because they're different races, which makes sense.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary a continent is one of the large land masses of the earth such as Europe, Asia or Africa. If it's good enough for the Oxford dictionary it's good enough for me, and should be for you , too.

Europe is of a decent size. I consider it a continent.

If Europe isn't big enough to be a continent then neither is Australia (whether you add Oceania or not) or Antarctica.

why target it? ocenia is smaller for goodness sake and has been registered as a continent since western records began really. oh and btw there used to be a Eurasia before the breaking of the landmass billions of years ago so what do you get? yup you guessed it Europe and Asia. another point, due to it's sheer size back in the cold war certain schools (not just russian, my mums did) actually taught geography with Russia being it's own continent. but at the minute it's registered as European mostly since most commerce goes on in the western more developed part of the country.

Calling Europe a continent dosen't hurt anyone. Europe is pretty big, big enough to be a continent. It has way too many different countries that would object to becoming one gigantic country. It's fine the way it is.

Australia is different, because of Oceania. It wouldn't be part of Asia since it's all the way out in the middle of no where.

I never said make it one giant country. That would be terrible. Civil wars would start because of ethnic disagreement, i.e what the Serbs did, if you know what I mean.

that's what they're trying to do atm mate, we already have a European president overseeing the countries to a brief extent with power gradually slipping from sole countries on things like trade and commerce laws and every country has its own EMP(European Members of Parliment) so eventually if things keep going as they're going you'll be looking at the Unitedd States of Europe in around 70years since every country is actually considered a member state.

and back to continents anyway, if you had your way what would you do with Europe then? dividing land masses up into continents is just a way of filing them really as take some small ass country like Lithuania... "where the fuck is Lithuania?" you ask yourself. you decide to google it and get various things like maps of lithuania and brief guides saying things like "It is near Russia" which part of Russia you ask yourself again. this will keep going on and on untill you get bored and either quit or google maps it's ass so you can actually find out, oh. it's in Eastern Europe what would you do if this land mass had no title or status?

You have a point, but I already know where Lithuania is. :P

I never thought of it like you just did.
