Ontario’s new sex education curriculum is drawing fire from Christian and Muslim groups, who are planning to pull their kids out of school on May 10 to protest the changes. The school boycott is an attempt to pressure Premier Dalton McGuinty into heeding their concerns about the new curriculum, which would have Grade 3 kids learning about homosexuality, and Grade 6 students learning about anal sex and vaginal lubrication. According to Murielle Boudreau, of the Greater Toronto Catholic Parent Network, such information will “traumatize these children—they’re going to be doing everything out in the schoolyard.” At the same time, the Tories are positioning themselves to use the new curriculum, which is the first revision of sex education since 1998, as an opportunity to trumpet family values.

This seems a little far for a school to go. Though, I think its something people should learn about, in a school, I don't think its their place. They should be taught safety, protection, and basic mechanics. But this just seems to be over a line to me.

Of course they wouldn't want kids to be educated and tolerant.

yeah..
Too young, and TMI.
I generally think sex ed is too little too late, but this is taking it too far.

Homosexuality, I understand. But anal sex? I don't see why sixth graders need to know that, but what these parents are doing is outrageous.

personally I knew all about it by the time I was in grade 7
and i would MUCH rather my child learned in a safe environment where I know they're getting actual facts over myth
I agree with it
But don't worry he caved like a deck of cards, such a brave politician -roll-
“When,” a senior Liberal was complaining the other day, “are we going to start doing stuff that people like, instead of just pissing them off all the time?”
It was a rhetorical question, but Premier Dalton McGuinty provided an answer on Thursday: Um, immediately.
Following just 54 hours of protest from a few conservative religious leaders and parents, McGuinty abandoned Ontario’s new sex education curriculum.
The proposed guidelines, two years in the making, would have modernized a teaching plan that dates back to 1997 – a prehistoric era before Google, YouTube, Twitter or Facebook.
As of September, Grade 1 students were to be taught body parts, including the correct terms for genitalia, which experts say can help prevent sexual abuse.
More controversially, Grade 3 students would have learned about homosexuality and, in Grade 6, masturbation. Concepts of anal and oral sex were part of the Grade 7 lesson plan.

Now that I think about, what the school system was trying to do is the right thing. They should learn about these things because they will do them. And I don't see why first graders learning what a "penis" or "vagina" is bad, or third graders learning about homosexuality or sixth graders learning about masturbation. They're twelve, almost teenagers. Can't shelter kids all of their life.
