right, i think firstly the main thing to do is make sure whatever you are cutting with (if you realllly need to) is steralized and i know that when you get that impulse to cut the first thing you think about isn't steralizing your implaments but it is essensial if you want to avoid infections it is always kept strile (it may be simpler to stralize it every time after than before sometimes)
i think also you need to keep the cuts clean, maybe put a dressing on them or just simply wash them on a day to day basis. just by keeping with general hygene you can help stop infection. xx

As pixie1234 said, make sure whatever you use is clean and you keep the cuts clean, this should reduce the risk of infections

You can get creams and things to put on cuts after you have done them that will kill and germs on the surface of your skin. Also try washing your skin with soap where you are going to cut.

Clean your tools before and after SIing. Usually rubbing alcohol is the best, but if you can just rinse them that's better than nothing.
This can also help with blood staining, fyi
Clean your cuts. Duh.
best way is when they stop bleeding to clean them with warm water and soap and use antibiotic cream (Neosporin in the US, Polysporin UK). Change the bandages if they get wet, or daily, whichever comes first.
Generally keep bandages on until it's closed fully, which can vary by the person and the cuts, and keep cleaning it until the scabs are fallen off or mostly fallen off.
While stopping really is the best option, that can't always be done for different reasons. Knowing how to reduce infection and scarring, however, should NEVER be an excuse to cut.
Cutting by definition isn't "safe", as a "small" OD is never "safe". There are ways to make the effects lesser, but there's always the chance /PSA
