Ice Nine Kills and Underoath are pretty good. Although I tend to stray away from full on screamo.

The only screaming band I like is Alesana because they do it right. They blend regular singing in with the screaming, and the songs don't suck, to say the least.

Screamo is a genre that people need to develop a taste for but it definetly isn't for everyone. But my favorites are Chiodos, Attack Attack!, The Devil Wears Prada, Four Year Strong, I See Stars, In Fear and Faith, LoveHateHero, Pierce The Veil, and a lot more.

Epicfail is epic :D. Death Metal uses growling or shrieking vocals (mostly growling), blast beats, has a few bass solos (do you get that in screamo? No.), the guitars are fast, technical and rather awesome and the lyrics (let's forget the death stuff and consider the other things they write songs about) are considered, reflective of the vocalist's view of how the world works and usually a little controversial. Screamo bands usually have an annoying vocalist with pretentious lyrics about some bitch he wants to bang, simplistic drums & bass and boring, generic guitars. Do you see a difference now? Oh, and Lamb of God are Groove Metal/Heavy Metal, hope that helps :D .

I know a few "scremo" bands that work, i just cant think of them right now. I know murder by death and the protomen have a few songs each with a bit of screaming in them and they work wonderfully; but a band where there is no vocal melody is not worth being called a band at all.

Scream is not noise when done right. I would agree with you that a lot of it is noise but not the good bands like Alesana and As I Lay Dying or Silverstein. I was going to find an example but it wasn't on Youtube so I'll upload it to Youtube later.
