i am trying to convince my parents to get a new computer set up because ours is seriously outdated, not even like a couple years outdated, like a 1995 tower, 1997 moniter, and 1998 speakers. I am just getting tired of it because i cannot play all my games on it, the newer computers have functions that would make my school work much easier, and a lot of the time it is just plain slow, like 5 min to open internet explorer.
so what i am asking is how much would a new computer run me?

ALLLLLLL Depends on whats in it, who makes it, and if its not a mac :P

A good idea, go into a few shops like BestBuys and other IT shops just to look around and see.

Most cost, $200 up. Its mainly up to what the computer is itself.

If you build your computer yourself, you can save a lot of money... But before giving you advices, i need to know your budget... A few days ago i've built a dirt cheap computer for me... It cost me around $600...
-Samsung Lavender (P2050) 20" Lcd
-750GB Samsung HDD
-Liteon 24x DVD-RW
-Intel Dual core E5400 2.7ghz(overclocked it to 3.2ghz)
-4GB Transcend Ram 800mhz
-Gigabyte G41M-ES2L
-XFX nvidia GTS250 1GB
But i think it's insane to buy intel s775 mobos/processors... You really should buy at least core i5, if you want to use it for more than two years... And if you want to game you must need a good graphics card... You can use AMD products if they are avialable in your country(in my country, they are unavailable)... Actually most of the time AMD gives best bang for the buck...

In the long run that's more expensive than just buying an average desktop computer. Check out tiger direct I saw they had some pretty decently priced computers. But if you're expecting something fast and up to date your best bet is to go for Windows 7, or XP If you have to, and make sure its got a good RAM/Memory size.

I dont know anything about tiger direct... I'm from asia... LoL
Actually he didn't mention about his budget, what he wants to do, how long will he use this computer etc. etc... If he did, it would be easy for us to give him suggestions...

If you gave more specifics as to what you are looking for and how much money you can spend we might be able to help more but here's my opinion. . .

Well if you want a gaming computer check out this one. (http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/desktops/alienware-area-51-alx/pd.aspx?refid=alienware-area-51-alx&s=dhs&cs=19&~ck=mn) It's by Alienware and though I don't usually like there computers very much and think they are overrated, this is the best gaming computer on the market right now in my opinion. but it is also very expensive ($3999 starting price).

Their Aurora model is only $999 so its pretty much the same price as a regular computer. But it also isn't as good as the other models.

For the record the starting prices for Alienware computers do not come with monitors so you are going to have to buy one with the computer.

Right now I'm using an Inspiron 1525 laptop and I've had it for almost a year now. Haven't had almost any problems with it and the problems I have had I've been able to fix myself. I don't remember how much it cost but it was around $1000. But don't expect too much out of this one. I've tried playing games on it and they are extremely slow with the current video card. I use Photoshop often and even just the 3D rendering slows it a lot. But for just a general all around good computer I would recommend this one.

To find the best computer for you, you'd need to state your preferences (e.g. windows or mac; desktop or laptop; price range; etc. as well as some of the actual games you'd play in order to get a capable graphics card and cpu)

If you want the newest/best/cheapest computer, then get the ASUS G73JH-A1 (http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g73jha1-order-p-2731.html) for ~$1,650. This pc would play any game you put in it perfectly. It is a laptop and it is still on pre-order status so you'd have to wait on that one.

Another pc I'c recommend is the one my dad bought my mom (http://www.walmart.com/ip/eMachines-750-GB-ET1331G-05w/13352323) a few months ago for ~$400 (except they seem to have dropped the RAM from 6GB to 4GB). It can run pscs4 and world of warcraft fine, but if you play Modern Warfare, Crysis, or any higher demanding games, then this one isn't good enough (as it has integrated graphics therefore you could not opt for an upgrade at a later date).

anyways.. there's my 2cents

WoW... Ati Radeon 5870 !!!... The laptop is really so cool... You will be able to play any of your favourite games at highest settings... Not sure about crysis though... But who cares? Crysis 2 is coming and it doesnt require that high configered computer to play at highest settings...
