Can we have one day say a month or week to spam the shoutbox? :P
I know, something completly stupid, but it was worth a go..
Anyone agree?

And when exactly would these days be?

Harley Quinn

Well, that would depend on the admins ect

I cant really see the point in that when there's the chatroom as well

ShatteredWings
April 18th, 2010, 06:36 AM
well cuz spamming the shoutbox is infractable, one day when it's not [except for product spammers and 'hai wanna chat pm me for pix!']

Giles
April 18th, 2010, 06:47 AM
What's the point exactly?
Just go spam the chat room, if anywhere.

You can still be infracted for that as well.
Tbh, i dont see the problem with it, it wouldn't harm anyone and it would be one day every so often the mods wouldn't have to waste time monitoring the shoutbox/can do something more important.

mhm, I still cant see the need, why would you want to spam the shoutbox in the first place, its nice to be able to see things that crop up like the post count milestones without those getting swamped by spam. Personally I think its a bad idea because it would lead to more spam because people would get confused or forget when it was the allowed day. Its far easier to remember and stick to a constant rule that spamming the shoutbox is not allowed.

Geeze Nick, you're no fun.

I say "yes". I mean, why not? Just for fun, y'know?

I think we should, it would be kind of fun.

I don't understand the satisfaction that one gets for spamming the shoutbox...?

Nor do I.
Now that Nick has mentioned it, I realise how much I do actually notice post count milestones and how people are feeling etc..

You can still be infracted for that as well.

What I mean is that use the chat room, instead of the shoutbox. That is actually used for interesting things. Unlike the chat room most of the time.

No. I do not want this for this will make my spam less noticeable, therefore making me less apparent in chat.

I will support this only if we have other days where other rules are disregarded.

I see that ending well...

No, no pics rule DAY! :P  P101ers would flood the forum and crash the severs with pics of their dicks. Just making sure its right or big enough.

What about those that can't get to the chat room. What about those mister Ben.
Sure..it's pointless when there's a chat room, not all people can get in there. I know I couldn't for ages. One day of fun, I thought it would work out, seen as there's the whole "please take the convos to pm's" Now while all that is true, a relaxed sorta day would be great. You don't have to agree just don't say your answers that are the same again and again and again. No, I'm not being a bitch. It just gets annoying.

i think that its a good idea, sometimes this site is too strict. it would be fun to post random pointless shit there for once, i mean there are a lot of smilies suited for just that which we never get to use. i vote for it

I think it would be a fun idea. And if you're worried about people forgetting the day just make it at the last or first day of the month. Those are pretty easy days to remember. Lol

I thought spam was a type of meat.
U want to cover the Chatbox in meat?

I don't think it's a bad idea. Just one day a week to have a little fun. I prefer to spam the shoutbox and not the chat. Plus a little enjoyment out of It all wouldn't hurt anyone.

I think not. Pointless, IMO.

What's the necessity to spam anything?
-.-

Yeah, see, the issue here is that I doubt enough of the members here are mature enough to be able to use a day such as this correctly. The word "Spam" is immediately going to be taken waay out of proportion.

Not to mention the fact that something like this will really blur the lines in regards to shoutbox rules outside of "spam day". It opens the door to a lot of potential mess and headaches for the moderators, and there are honestly parts of this site that need the focus of the staff a lot more than the shoutbox.

It's really pointless, in the end, and just opens the door for too much to go wrong.

If we're going to have a day where we break one rule, we may as well have a day where we break several other rules and start insulting everyone and uploading explicit images. No offense, but I don't really see this happening.

Is it me or are there a lot of ad absurdum arguments in here?
Spaming shoutbox =/= Posting porn.

I say yes, we should at least try it. If it doesn't work we don't do it again.

I don't care really. Just as long as people aren't just sitting there going "Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam Spam MOAR SPAM MOAR SPAM MOAR SPAM MOAR SPAM MOAR SPAM MOAR SPAM MOAR SPAM ."

If it were to happen though, I suggest it should be on the ides of every month.

That's how I feel.
There just isn't any point in it in the first place. I don't see how anyone can get amusement from spamming random shit.

Something tells me that that would probably happen.
A member sees the shout box getting spammed, doesn't understand what's happening so just does that ^^.

Precisely. Call me whatever, but rules exist for a reason. Spamming the shoutbox would not be disallowed if it were to ever be a good idea.

Come to think of it, that applies to every rule here doesn't it?

That's not a very good excuse not to have it. Especially since the rules you listed are there for our safety and to keep things respectful.

Respectful.
If spamming were to happen, then some hurtful and offensive things could be said. In jest or not, chances are they would happen.

And if that happened they'd be infracted for it. I'm not saying I'm for or against it just saying that some of the points raised against it aren't very good ones.

Doesn't the issue of insufficient moderation become an issue there?

Let's be honest, there isn't always a mod looking at the shoutbox. Unless there were special arrangements made for this day(s).

You can pm a mod and we can go back and read it. And maybe since a mod suggested this they'll be looking at the shoutbox during that time while participating in it.

What's saying there isn't special arrangements? Members say hurtful and offensive comments every day here, and when that happens they get infracted. The rules for offense wouldn't change, just the rules on spamming for that one day.

I never thought about the fact that a mod suggested the idea, you would expect them to be checking what's going on then.

What's saying there isn't special arrangements? Members say hurtful and offensive comments every day here, and when that happens they get infracted. The rules for offense wouldn't change, just the rules on spamming for that one day.

I assumed there weren't special arrangements because they haven't been mentioned in this thread.

If there were way more people posting way more crap in the shoutbox then more things are bound to be said that could offend someone.

So, if this is what you think, do you want Spam the Shoutbox Day to happen? Or is it still a bad idea?
