Can't upload pics?

Trying to upload pics that i took from my phone and then saved onto my computer. Everytime i try to upload the pic it says this is not a valid image file, It's a .bmp image. I can't imagine what I'm doing wrong, but i figure maybe somebody could help me since I'm new here.

Did you try changing the type of file?

Also, I'm not sure if new members can upload pictures...

Yeah, i tried changing it from a .bmp to a .jpg and it did nothing.
