At the risk of sounding daft, I don't normally post in this forum, as I'm really not that high-tech. :whoops:

I'm really annoyed and a bit worried about my iPod Classic 80GB Black from 2008.

Over the past couple of days, the buttons of the click wheel were becoming more unresponsive, until today. Now they have completely stopped working. I'm confused, as the wheel/scroll still works, but none of the buttons work at all.

I haven't a clue what could be the problem. I last synced the iPod last night with iTunes 9 on my Windows Vista Acer Aspire 5535 laptop. It also hasn't been damaged by water etc. I have no idea what the issue is, but now the only way I can use it is through my Philips DCB146 Docking Hi-Fi, using the Hi-Fis remote control.

If anyone has any idea what the issue could be, or any advice, I'd really appreciate it.

Well my iPod nano recently started doing the same until it became that bad i just thought screw it and bought a new one instead. If you can phone apple up/get it sent to apple for them to take a look they might actually replace it if they find it to be a fault with the ipod itself. Or if you know someone nearby that might be able to take a look at it that could be useful too.

The fatal floor is iPods with click weels, they do wear out. My best answer: if still under wanrnty return it. If not ring apple and see what they have to say. If there is an apple store near you head there (but don't think you will just get help, as they can be very busy and not have time for people who didn't book)

basically the connections between the click wheel and where the data is being transfered are being worn out. just like buttons on a remote control for a television or the buttons on a calculator this will happen gradually until finally the connections are completely worn out. the people at the apple store won't be able to help you too much but you might want to ask them who you can send it to to get it fixed. you could find instructions online probably but that is risky since most electronics are very fragile and temper mental on the inside so unless you know what you are doing i wouldn't suggest doing that.

Make an appointment with the Genius Bar in your nearest Apple Store and see what the geniuses can do.
