I'm sure it is not an uncommon experience. Shyness usually occurs in the presence of others which one has yet to become fully comfortable with, after all. There is no need to feel shy, per se, around persons whom one has close interaction with on a daily basis. Although there are certainly those who keep to themselves strictly at home and are much more outgoing in public, it usually isn't due to shyness, but other factors affecting relationship dynamics in the home.

It's pretty common I think because at home you may have the feeling of safety, in a close social network and you can trust others. At school, these things are heavily reduced, and so one may then be withdrawn from interacting almost as a self-preservation mechanism.

I'm like that. I hardly talk to anyone in social things such as school/college, but at home im kinda the opposite. I don't talk much still, but im more relaxed than i would be elsewhere.

A home is a an environment offering affection and security and that is taken right from the dictionary by the way
I think it makes sense that most us feel safer and "less shy" at home. Thats why it is home
At school however it is an unfamiliar place so most of us are uncomfortable and act shy.
I think once you start meeting people the same feeling of security you get at home you can now get from your friends

Lots of people feel that way because you've grown up with the people at home, and the people at school could be complete strangers.
But no, I'm usually social everywhere I go, because I'll talk to anyone I meet. I just like people. :P

I'm usually very quiet at home, i can easily convince everyone i'm perfectly normal sweet good kid blahblah whatever.
at school and other places the real me comes out a bit more. there are a few places in school i become just as withdrawn but for the most part i'm louder at school.

Your problem is very common. When you say you're shy, what you really mean is that you're afraid that if other people see who you really are, if you speak up and let them learn more about you.

I'm actually the opposite, I always talk during school and I am totally outgoing.
I just don't feel right in this home so I don't say much.

I am the opposite as well. At home I am an only child and my parents really don't either remember or do remember but don't care what it is like. But at school I am talkative, however when I am at home I am quiet and keep to myself.
