Backgrounds transparent for when the photo is exported to a JPEG or BMP?

it might be different depending on what version of Gimp you have but for the newest version here are the steps:

1)Open Gimp as you normally would
2)File-->New (ctrl+N)
3)put in the settings you want for the size of the document
4)Extend the Advanced Options
5)Go to the "Fill With" Drop Down Bar
6) Select "Transparency"
7)Hit "OK"
It will appear white but once you save the document it will save with a transparent background

That should be it. Hope I helped

1. Make sure you've got an alpha channel.
2. When exporting, choose Merge Visible Layers instead of Flatten Image.
3. Export as .png, not .jpg.
