No. It's a pointless belief, and doesn't account for growing populations.

Neat idea. More interesting then other religions or philosophies but also less plausible.

No, nor do I beleive in a soul. I am of the oppinion that every part of the human consciousness is simply electrical signals in the brain. I'm sorry Mum, but that is the way it is.

I was expecting this thread to get some huge argument but apparently were all under the idea that this theology is bull shit.

What if I said it makes more sense than one soul, because it takes into account non-humans and the natural cycles of life?

April 14th, 2010, 08:39 PM
Actually, I do, but not necessarily in the traditional sense.

I believe that all 'souls' are fragments temporarily separated from the whole - the universal consciousness, if you will - in order to take on physical life forms. And when one such life ends, the spirit which inhabits that body simply returns to become a part of the immeasurable whole. Every new fragment that undertakes the same journey, thus, contains a trace of the individual within them.

Alternatively, it can be interpreted this way - one's body dies and decomposes, finally becoming immersed into the land and soil from which new, individual life forms will spring. Their lives, too, are the culmination of many that have existed before.

The point is, though, that existence itself does not end with the end of a physical life.

I really don't think this is something that can be argued about - it is simply what makes the most sense to each individual. Thought I would offer to share the other perspective.

Hmmm. To me that's a hard question to answer.
I'm kinda a 'hopeful atheist', if you will. :D
There is evidence for reincarnation, yet there's evidence for God.
I'm kinda in a, a hard point in my life. I just don't know what I belive in spirtual wise.
I just don't want to stop existing.

It does to him and that should be all that matters unless it's hurting other people, which I see no evidence of. Some people just view the world differently, something that makes sense to one person won't make sense to another. He wasn't trying to bash the idea of reincarnation, he was just saying it didn't make sense to him as an individual.

I wish it did... Not going to say it doesn't, because there is no way to completely disprove it. But I highly doubt it's real. The concept of it is amazing though, and if I could choose anything to be real, I'd definitely pick this.

Reincarnation is a part of the Hinduism and Jainism belief systems. Reincarnation is one of those things that gets picked out of a religion and commercialized, so nobody ends up knowing where it really comes from. It's like a fad, people will believe in that single concept because it's 'cool' sounding, with no logical reasoning as to why they 'believe' in it.

In A Nutshell: With true reincarnation, one's Atman (soul) is immortal and is constantly striving towards reaching Nirvana, which can be described as 'the final release'. Once one reaches Nirvana, their soul ceases to exist because they've managed to free them self of the reincarnation cycle by achieving Moksha (liberation from suffering (living)) through one of the Moksha paths.

Short answer: I'm Atheist, so no, I don not believe in reincarnation

First, way to quote the wrong person. Second, your argument is founded on the assumption that aliens exist, something that has not been proven. Third, "implying Christianity makes sense" is perfectly valid, as one cannot prove that the universe was created and governed by a jew nailed to a plank of wood about two thousand years ago. You can say one cannot disprove them either, but of course, the burden of evidence falls upon you to prove something, not those of a dissenting viewpoint to disprove it.

its just iunno thought i put it down since theirs no way of knowin, just a little theory(condensed). its not exactly recarnating

a coin can be flip HEADS a thousand times in a row, IF you flip it enough. understand that and ul lget the rest.

now over the next thousand or so years if humans dont blow them selfs up with nukes. then theirs a chance! (the smallest of chances, 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001, in probalility if anythign possible will happen)
that their could be someone who looks exactly like you, who has the smae brain structure of you, a replica/version of you. you could be living one of them now.

the things u do now could make life more plesent or difficult for your replica. (not to sure about this sentence...still need ot hink mroe about it)

God won't point out anything to you because their is no proof that he has spoken one word to anyone ever. So your chance of some guy in the clouds telling you something is very very low.

I'm sure of only one thing. No one knows what happens when you die.
But i do understand how people come up with the concepts of reincarnation and heaven.
It's hard to comprehend the possibility of you not being able to exist anymore. In order to understand people feel the need to create another viewpoint(reincarnation) or create a place to go other than this world(heaven).

did god create you and heaven? or did you create heaven and god?
Id rather live my life beleiving and be dissapointed in the end than be wrong and have God point it out to me later. :D

ive never understood the "just in case" argument

It's like taking a magic pill that has a 1/10 chance of preventing cancer, that doesn't cause and side affects at all.

I'm taking it just in case, there's no down sides. So why not.

It's the same with believing in reincarnation.
Believe in case it does exist, if it doesn't then it's a shame. If it does then there you go.
