A year ago tomorrow my cat Cooper died, he was a black and brown tabby, he was 8 years old and he was turning 9 at the end of April.
He came in one night (outdoor cat) and he fell to the floor and he was just lying there looking sorry for himself. My Mum phoned up the vet and we had to take him up. The vet basically told us straight, he had a blood clot in his lower back and it was stopping the blood getting to his legs therefore he couldnt walk and she said there was nothing she could do for him. My mum had to make the decision of getting him put down, I know you all must think "So what its just a cat" but he was more than just a cat to me he was like a brother a best friend, I burst into tears and couldnt watch him get put down it was the worst day of my life. The next day I went to see Marley and Me because it had just came out and if any of you havent seen it the dog gets put down, so that didnt help. I buried him that night in the garden, I was so upset for weeks and I just thought because it was a year ago tomorrow that I would make a post about it.
Thanks for taking your time to read this. :(

Everything will be alright. I know it is hard to come to terms with the death of a friend, especially a pet, but at least you will remember him. He's in a better place now, and all of his pain is relieved.

We do get very attached to our pets, its ok to grieve for them, and to still remember and love them a year on.

I wouldnt say "kinda" like family, I would say they are family. I had my cat since I was 5 up until I was 14 so thats 2/3s of my life he was in. He meant alot to me.

I posted this earlier in another thread but I think it's appropriate here:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Pets are more than family. They love you unconditionally and it's hard to deal with loosing that. My only advice is celebrate the life rather than mourn the death.

I know how you feel. I had a hamster and a cat. The hamster, Peanut, was like a friend to me. The Cat, White fang, I grew up with. It's sad seeing animals pass away faster then us and sometimes there aren't any other animals to replace them. There's never another one as good as the original.
Some people are probably going to look at this and be like, "Oh my gawd, Karina haz a soft side!? 0="

It may take time, but its proof that they are more than just a pet...they are totally loved because they are family. I know my one cat Patches will go - he's 12 and has asthma and arthritis and stuff. For now, we comfort him and give him all he needs. He has always been my best friend. He is family and nothing can take those memories of him from me when he passes on.

I have a puppy who's almost a year old. I got him around September last year and I don't know what I'd do if he died. But keep remembering that Cooper's in a better place now and no longer has any pain. Sorry for your loss.
