Well popping the cherry refers to one losing his or her virginity. It is just a colorful name for losing one's virginity, nothing more :) And the obvious way to do it is to have sexual intercourse.

My tips would be wait until you are with someone you trust 100%, who you feel comfortable enough with to do this with, and make sure that you always have protection.

"Popping the cherry" Usually refers to breaking a girls hymen during sexual intercourse. The hymen is the layer of membrane just covering the external vaginal opening. In a lot of cases, although the female may not have had sex before, various others things could have broken the hymen such as sports, masturbation or even using tampons. There usually is a little bit of blood, but this isn't serious and should deteriorate a day or two after the hymen is broken.
