Ok, so on Thursday, I drew a confederate flag in school, a teacher walked by and saw it and now I have 4 days of detention.
Do you think that's fair? It's not even a bad thing to draw.
They were like "This school isn't racist"
And I told them that I wasn't being racist, and the flag isn't racist, I'm just a redneck lol

Yeah, that's not fair at all. You have every right to carry around a confederate flag. All it was was the battle flag, y'know for the lines and all.

I hope you're fighting that detention, because it was completely unfair. Especially if its a public school. Talk to the principal and explain that you have every right to draw a flag for its artistic value, and that the teacher in question is making assumptions that punishment cannot be based on.

That is completely unfair. The same thing happened to a friend of mine, but he didn't get a detention. Though I know where they are coming from because, even though it is only a flag, it has come to symbolize racism and hatred for black people.
Peace God

Not fair at all... that flag doesn't necessarily represent racism.
However, it does make me feel uncomfortable at times but i dont really take offense to it and you definitely dont deserve punishment because you didnt do anything wrong.
Just understand that there are plenty of people that will be offended(especially non whites, non christians and non heteros), i mean you dont see people drawing swastikas, bad example but u get my point.

That is anything but fair. You should tell your parents. Take it to the principal. make a petition to get her fired!

Well, did you know that educational code E958.38 actually states that students give up every right granted by the United States of America when they enter the schoolhouse, except the "right to get an equal education".
It completely depends on how the school handles things. Maybe they felt it was inappropriate.
Like previously stated, it is not appropriate to draw a swastika...and many may be offended and you'd get in trouble for that, too. In Germany (which has freedom laws, just like we do) drawing a swastika is a violation which is equivalent to a felony here. I haven't heard of the confederate flag being illegal here...some states, like South Carolina, have made the display of the confederate flag illegal, however.

The swastika was used in Buddhism before Nazism. So, they can't get you in trouble for having a swastika if your Buddhist or something.

The swastika was originally used in Catholic churches in Italy. When I took a trip there, the tour guide for the large church showed them to us and said "It still remains a mystery as to why this is significant for Catholicism"
But the use of the swastika in Germany (and even a few neighboring countries) is completely illegal...PERIOD.
This isn't where I originally got the information about the symbol, but it says the same thing:
After the fall of the Nazi regime, many Germans felt their new government should take steps to distance itself from that tragic and costly time in German history. Along with banning the publication or ownership of Hitler's autobiography (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-an-autobiography.htm) Mein Kampf, the West German government made any display or use of the Nazi swastika illegal. This law continues to be tested today, with various neo-Nazi organizations routinely displaying the outlawed Nazi flag during demonstrations. Even consumer products such as t-shirts and bumper stickers (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-bumper-stickers.htm) can be confiscated if they contain any depiction of a swastika.
http://www.wisegeek.com/is-it-really-illegal-to-display-the-swastika-symbol-in-germany.htm
On that page as well, near the bottom, it says this:
Some Germans equate the display of the swastika to the display of the Confederate flag in the United States. Both symbols represent dark periods in each country's history, but the government's attempt to outlaw (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-an-outlaw.htm) their display could be construed as whitewashing – an effort to downplay the significance of the event itself. While most modern Germans bristle at the thought of the Holocaust or Hitler's reign of terror, some believe the display of the swastika symbol should not be completely outlawed. Oftentimes, the acknowledgement of a symbol of evil can be the key to diminishing its significance.
The swastika was used in Buddhism before Nazism. So, they can't get you in trouble for having a swastika if your Buddhist or something.
