I was thinking of buying Far Cry 2 for my Xbox 360, but I've heard from a few people that the game is tedious, boring and nothing like the original Far Cry. I've heard that you spend ages driving across a large map and have to redo chunks of the game because it's difficult and you can rarely save. Apparently, the enemies also have bad AI and there's little in the way of story.

Now, this surprised me because I have had high hopes for FC2, but now that I've heard what it's supposedly like, I'm having second thoughts about if it's worth it; I have plenty of other games to play such as Fallout 3, Assassin's Creed II or Mass Effect 2 for instance (it's not like I need another game if it's going to be boring).

So, to those of you that have played a bit of FC2, what are your thoughts? Is what I've heard accurate IYHO and is it as good as the first? Should I spend my own money to buy it? I haven't bought the game yet, but I want to know if it's worth it. Thanks in advance.

I Just Borught it on the games on demand on xbox live.
The game world is big and looks good, the story is ok at best, but the gameplay is good, the health system is very poor and makes the game a pain at times.
the map editer in this game OWNS some of the stuff people have made is unbeliveibale mazes remake's of maps on cod and halo its amazing, and it is fun to make your own and share them online, you get a good buzz when people are playing on your own map.

But yea i just borught it for the maps because they are unlike anything out on console it gives the mp a lot of replay value. So if you have xbox live then i would pick this up.

the only good thing about it is the map editor, its sick.

but the game is just lots of driving past enemies that respawn in checkpoints 10 minutes later, and injecting yourself with antidotes every 30sec in combat. dont buy it.

Hmm, so it isn't all rumours then. I knew that FC2 would have a map editor but I wouldn't but it just for that (even if it is a nice extra which many games don't bother giving). What exactly is wrong with the driving and shooting? Is it that it's repetitive with driving to the opposite ends of the map and shooting enemies with bad AI over and over with no variation? Is it anything like the first Far Cry?

here is farcry 2. You are in africa and get hired by 2 waring factions. They hire you to sabotage the other one. You do about 10 missions for each in 2 separate maps. They pay you in diamonds. Friends can help you out and make life a bit easier for you, but that involves another 10 minutes of driving.

the driving and shooting usually involves a 5 minute real time drive to a place, passing through about 10 checkpoints each with 5 gaurds that shoot at you for no reason, no matter what side that you are on. Then you get to your objective, and bang your out of health. of course there are no health packs, so you die.

When you eventually reach your objective you go there and take what you need drive back and repeat the checkpoints, Go get your diamond rewards and buy another shitty gun from the shop, then bang when your finished all the missions the factions betray you and kill all your friends.

that is farcry 2.

It might just be my opinion about all games of the sort.
I hate the whole game though.
Single player is slow and boring, multiplayer is slightly faster - still shitty though. For some unknown reason.

Doesn't sound too interesting, TBH. Maybe I'll consider something else - or just stick with the many games I have already. Thanks everyone for your posts.

I'd say go for Battlefield Bad Company 2 or get the good old Gears of War 2. Both brilliant games, amazing graphics and even better multiplayer game play.
