View Full Version : A little healthy competition

Kathy and myself have come up with a little competition to try and encourage eachother to stop SH, for a while at least, so the rules are pretty basic whoever caves first and self harms in any way has to film their forfeit... thing is we don't exactly know what that forfeit should be so we're kinda asking you guys. It has to be something embarrassing enough to put us both off of loosing but not so embarrassing that we'd never ever do it (so no streaking.)
Also it was sort of to spread the competition idea to anyone that might actually have a use for it. It was mostly kathy's idea
So any penalty suggestions or anything else to add just drop a comment

This is such a bad idea. If one of you slips, the other wins? And then you have no other incentive to not cut, so you may as well cut after the other folds.
Find a better way to resist cutting, tethering yourself to another cutter in some sort of competition is no way to go about things; this is a serious situation and it should be treated as such.

I see your point but we have both found it hard to stop for even a short time before and believe me this is helping. We both knew this wasn't a permanent solution but it may at least help us to learn how to resist the urges. It has also encouraged us to find other ways of coping when it gets too hard to resist on just willpower alone.
At the end of the day Sh is something you have to stop on your own if and when you are ready. This competion is just preparing us for then and we are having a bit of fun in the process.

I agree with how it can be a bad thing,
but at the same time, I think it's be hilarious/embarrassing to make the other dress up like...Justin Beiber or Lady Gaga and sing one of their songs and then have to post it on facebook or something :)

It's an interesting idea, of course - but I can completely see how it could unintentionally end up causing more harm than good.
Giving in to urges of self-harm in general is usually seen as a shameful experience; being forced to engage in an embarrassing act on top of that would only intensify the existing negative emotion. Sure, this knowledge would supplement one's strength in resistance, but what if, for whatever reason, one gives in? Like any addiction, recovering from self-harm involves much more than simply stopping cold-turkey - and there will be occasional slip-ups along the way. What happens then?
Just be careful. Best of luck to the two of you.

It has its good and bad
REASONS FOR GOOD
It can teach them to depend on a friend to go to to talk things out
It has a moral. What is the moral? Don't cut because you will only lose to yourself
REASONS FOR BAD
The other person has to tell the other person but then they will have a good laugh of something funny after
But.. if it will help them overcome their SH they should do it. Whatever way they will do it. If its motivation its simple do the competition
btw... you guys should do for the embarrassing thing. put the looser on a leash and the winner has the control of the leash and the looser has to take a walk on the leash XD around the block...
GOOD LUCK TO YOU BOTH

Well we decided no forfeit. It seems the main reason for both of us stopping is because we know that if one of us caves, the other probabley will too. It seems enough of a forfeit to feel guilty about doing that to the other person :/
So to anyone wanting to try this idea out then it only works if you care enough for the other person :)
3 days and we are both still going :)
