Yes, definitely. You dont know what might have happened, even if he had no bad intentions accidents can happen and you helped protect the safety of the other pupils.

Well there are certainly times when its best to just not get involved. How did he know that it was you that told? The staff should have done everything possible to keep that secret.

it depends on where you live...
at my high school i wouldnt dare tell on the people that had knives with them for my own safety
if they are stupid enough to bring one to school then there's a good chance they are willing to use it
im not tryin to freak you out or anything but id be more careful next time
be 100% sure that your name is not used
btw my school had metal detectors but they didnt work that well anyway

I think you done the right thing. It was the safest thing to do!

Of course you did the right thing... you could've prevented another Columbine massacre (execept that it would've been a knife instead of guns) and as Nick said above, the school admi istration should have kept everything confidential.

You did do the right thing because when one brings a knife to school, chances are it's brought to be used and so you prevented a possible injury and/or death. Whenever a student reports on another student, the staff should keep the name anonymous because that automatically puts the student as a target, something the staff should be aware of. If they don't, then that's inexcusable.
It is quite possible that you wound up in a pretty ugly mess but hopefully everything works out. If it's a school where knives and such are daily occurances, then although you acted out of the good of your heart, you may have end up putting yourself in a rather ugly position. If the school is not so weapon-riddled, then I'd say it depends on how much trouble the student gets in.

Just go to school and classes acting as you always do. If you act on edge too much, then that will draw attention to yourself, possibly attention you don't want. For example, if the students don't know it was you but you are very anxious in an uncharacteristic way especially around the student, they could put two-and-two together. Be normal and pretend nothing has happened.

Errr...it depends. If your school is like mine, you'll look like a big pussy for ratting someone out for bringing a knife, because they obviously wouldn't have used it and only had it for show.
If your school is covered with students carrying knives and other weapons for protection, then you could have just shot yourself in the foot by ratting on someone.
If the student was obviously one who has emotional problems and there was a good chance that he could use the knife on someone, then you made a good choice.
Let me just ask you this: If you weren't in danger by the kid with the knife, why'd you feel the need to tattle on him?
