I have decided to apply to Stanford Online High school.

My submission will be late, and I am applying to be a full time student. Just thought it would be something nice to announce.

EPGY is good, but why would you not just attend a standard school? Online learning is an incomplete educational experience and should be used to supplement, not replace, a normal education. EPGY is useful once you've consumed all the education your local school could provide; unless I'm rather mistaken that's not the case for you.

I would rather take an online college course, than not. I do not want to go to a new school, and this would look rather prestigious on my college application.

It is an opportunity I want to take hold of.

If I'm not mistaken you've had quite a lot of moving around and disruption in your life already, so if you were able to get all you needed from a distance course like that I guess it would protect you from more disruption.

Having said that, although joining a new school part way through year is a daunting prospect, it could be good way to meet people and make some friends. You could become very cut off an isolated if you're not careful.

You have a wise head Adam, I'm sure you will make a good decision and hope you achieve whatever you want.

EPGY is not the kind of thing you go to because you don't want to go to a new school. What's the plan, socialize with Internet people until you go to college? Sound like a fun and rewarding educational/general life experience to you? EPGY is a great program once you've exhausted the curriculum at your school and want additional enrichment or the opportunity to take things not otherwise offered. Is there something specific you're looking to take at EPGY that you couldn't otherwise access at the new school? It's very misguided imo to use EPGY as an out from a new school. Nobody likes going somewhere new, but this is not an optimal solution to that problem.

You can apply to be a full student for a reason. Online high school appeals to me more than public. I do not mean to disregard your comment, but I've already made the decision to apply. If I don't get accepted, that is too bad. I will be fine if I don't get accepted, but this is what appeals to me and if I want to take this opportunity I will.

Well clearly. What, am I going to come to Illinois and stop you?

I am just telling you that with the benefit of just a little bit more life experience than you - not exactly a ton, but enough for the purposes of this discussion - I am quite sure you will later decide that leaving school this early was a mistake. I still hope you succeed in getting the best education you can for all purposes including college preparation, which is precisely why I'm giving you this advice.

I guess you're right David. Maybe I should give it some more thought. I will before I send my application in, if I do.
