Hello, all. I'm 14 years old, and male. I have something called Body Dysmorphic Disorder, also known as BDD and Dysmorphobia. I feel very alone about this disorder, and if there's someone else here that has it, I'd love to talk, if you don't mind.

Hun i know plenty of people who had it and i helped them struggle through it. its not an easy thing to cope with though many people think it is. its quite often overlooked and it shouldn't be. i would not have believed how bad Ht could be without seeing its effects myself and having to coach people through it. pm me if you would like to talk

Have you told anyone else about this? Family members, school counselors and close friends are a good place to start. Obviously, the more learned someone is, the more help they will be able to provide, but friends are often the easiest to talk to.
Good luck. =]

I feel far too embarrassed to talk to my family about it, for some reason. I've always been reclusive to them as far as things like this, although my close friends do know about it.

What about a school counselor? Have you got any other adults that you trust that aren't necessarily family?

Last time I checked, our freshman counselor was on maternity leave. And besides, if she's anything like my last school's counselor, she'll be no help, say "I have to go" midway through me talking, and always be too busy to ever talk.

As someone who has seen their fair share of therapists (mostly for depression and anxiety) I have to tell you, each one is different. Some have become burnt out, and no longer have their heart in it. Others use a style that just doesn't work for you. Eventually though, you'll find the one who's right for you. I don't know the situation at your high school, but if your freshman counselor doesn't help, maybe you can talk to one of the guidance counselors from the upper grades. Eventually, you will find someone who can help you.
