View Full Version : Listening from the beginning

So for some of us hardcores (if we can so be called) fans...do you listen to a whole album from start to finish or do you just skip some songs? And why do you do it?
For me: I always listen to an album from front to back. It just doesn't make sense to me to start listening to an album and then abruptly switch to another. It makes more sense to me to really get the entire feel of the album and digest the songs one by one than just skipping a few. Even if I don't like the song that much, I listen to it and have only skipped on the rare occasion. Why do I do this? Because I'm a diehard fanboy musician who loves to break down every bit of music and put it back together like a computer. I can listen to a 15 minute song and just repeat certain parts and break it all down just to let it flow into a song. I don't know, maybe I'm just too anal about my music.

When I buy(yes, buy, unlike you lot here.:P), I listen to it from start to finish, otherwise I listen to random songs on my song list on my iPod.

Well i have to say I'm guilty of that um sometimes depending on the album I will listen to it front to back. I guess it all depends. If it is absolutely terrible and there are only a few songs that i like well then i will listen to them.

We aren't discussing downloading and buying music, we're discussing on listening to an album first song to last. Would be nice not to see this thread go under a shit storm on how to get the music itself.

Depends. I do the first time but I rarely like every song.
Plastic Beach by Gorilla and Fight With Tools by Flobots come to mind when I think of listening from first to last.

I am guilty of that. but when it comes to my music i have to listen to Multiples of 15mins so sometimes i have to find a song to slot in to the gap. after that that's how i listen to the album. im weird i know

I always listen front to back on a album that I've never heard before. But if I've heard the whole album and whats on it before, I usually skip around and listen to differnt songs.

Well, when I get an album, I'll listen to it from start to finish. And I never delete songs from the album, because It wouldn't fit together when I want to listen to it from start to finish. In my opinion, if the only thing the Artist can do is make a couple good songs and make a shit album, then I won't listen to the band overall. I'm very picky with music. The whole album has to be good. If their is one song on it, I'm not just going to delete that song, I'm deleting the whole fucking album.
Especially with progressive music. That's kind of a rule with that genre; Your suppose to listen from start to finish.

Most of the time, I put my iPod on shuffle, open up an album, and let it go. The only time I skip songs is when I really, really can't stand what I'm listening to, but that's not very often...

Yes, I know you gave your own opinion of the subject of the thread, but I'd rather not have it littered with people pandering over downloading and buying music. I'll be more than happy to make a debate in RotW if you want.

Nah, you just know I was semi-trollin' on a subject I find goofy. :P

I believe an Album tells a story, so when I first get it, I listen to it uninterrupted front to back. I never skip a song or re-wind, unless I'm totally feeling the song.
When my iPod's on Shuffle, or I make a playlist for my day, though, it's all just the tracks split up.
