Do you guys know any songs about

Suicide
Depression
Self-Harm
Child Abuse
Rape
Not being good enough

??? Preferably not any heavy metal... Like... The Last Night by Skillet is fine, and things like The Way She Feels by Between the Tree's... both of those genres are great...

Thank you :)

I think Crawling by Linkin Park is a little bit about self-harm, but I can't say for sure.

- Nine Inch Nails has some really good stuff if your into the druggy suicidal personal-Listen to "The Downward Spiral" Album. Then "The Fragile", which is allot more experimental, and has allot of crazy stuff on it that I love.

- Elliott Smith. Most of his music is acoustic. He died on October 23, 2003 from 2 stab wounds, possibly self inflicted. Very dark music that won't make you smile much.

- Rozz Williams. He hung himself in his apartment. It's said that the album, "The Whorse's Mouth" was his suicide note. Get all of his solo stuff, Shadow Project, and his collaboration with Gitane Demone.

- Brand New. They have this very sappy, depressing, nihilistic style of music and lyrics. Listen to "The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me" and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

- Smile Empty Soul. They are a little bit more underground and talk allot about social issues. Their new album isn't as deep as their others, so go straight forward into the Vultures album if your really looking for that sadness. I mean, they wrote a song Called "Looser", and some of the lyrics go:
"If all my life is a test
I never thought that God would find my failure so amusing

Give me something good and I'll fuck it up
All my life I've tried but never had much luck
To be happy but I guess it's just not meant to be
I'm gonna die a loser"

*Drum roll for the most depressing music ever*

- OTEP. It doesn't get as suicidal as her music. She might be one of the most inspiring females out their in music right now. Although her new album was a little bit more political, her previous albums are VERY personal. If you don't know what I mean, listen to this song. You will never look at music the same, ever again. I mean, fuck linkin park and all that dumb mainstream music- THIS IS AS DEEP AS IT GETS. All those things you mentioned, are mentioned in this song. And they are true. They all happened to this singer.

Oh look another fool that thinks metal is about suicide and depression, it's no moreso than any other genre, and far less so than emo type music, not that that is even a real genre anyway. Child abuse and rape? more likely to find that shit in rap than metal, fool

I find 'Beyond Redemption' by HIM triggers a lot of my negative emotions, as the lyrical content of it just brings back shitty past thoughts and experiences of mine, from previous years. It's weird, because I don't think I could ever stop liking that song.

- Brand New. They have this very sappy, depressing, nihilistic style of music and lyrics. Listen to "The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me" and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

EDIT: In regards to Brand New, I made a thread last year that some of you may find helpful, in terms of understanding their style of music a bit better. http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=45329

"Breathe Me" - Sia
"Fix You" - Coldplay
"Fast Car" - Tracy Chapman
"Hurt" - Johnny Cash
"Wasted Years" - Cold
"My Immortal" - Evanescence
"Outside" - Staind

All very good. They can all represent different things; depression, loss, struggles, pain, isolation.

I think "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult is partially about suicide. It's open to interpretation

Suicide: "Tourniquet" (Sometimes referred to as "My Tourniquet") by Evanescence.
Depression: "Pale" by Within Temptation, "Lithium" by Evanescence.
Child Abuse: "Field of Innocence" by Evanescence (It is from their album "Origin" so you will have to download it...And no, I'm not promoting piracy, Amy herself has said that there are only a few copies and encourages to download it)
Not being good enough. "Lacrymosa" by Evanescence (In my opinion,at least)

Did I SAY I thought heavy metal was about that? NO. I like metal. I just don't like heavy metal about an issue this big. And for the project that I needed this for.:yeah:

- Smile Empty Soul. They are a little bit more underground and talk allot about social issues. Their new album isn't as deep as their others, so go straight forward into the Vultures album if your really looking for that sadness.

Their first CD is my favorite, the song, "The Other Side" especially.

"Fast Car" - Tracy Chapman
"Hurt" - Johnny Cash.

Another two of my favorites. Nine Inch Nails also sings Hurt and it's worth a listen in my opinion.

Essential Sadcore:

Dustin O'Halloren: Pianist who plays very slow, vivid, and powerful pieces. It's great for rainy days when you feel like crying on the way home from a bad day at work.

Zx6gr_Ch9x8

Kid Dakota: Sad, sulky, winter indie rock about psychical abuse and drugs. Don't listen to this music while under the influence, It will make you cry your eye sockets out. Especially the song "Bathroom" off the So Pretty album.

QB1wOL1CWZQ

Red House Painters: Start off with the Down Colorful Hill album. They created the whole "Sadcore" Idea of music. Some songs can be very slow, quiet, with Mark Kozelek singing over with his very solid and in someways, very disturbing voice. Allot of the music is about loneliness and suffering.

4BMZ7wfLyno

Rozz Williams: I've already talked about him in this thread, but fuck. He's as depressing as it gets really. Like I said below, "He hung himself in his apartment. It's said that the album, "The Whorse's Mouth" was his suicide note. Get all of his solo stuff, Shadow Project, and his collaboration with Gitane Demone."
I'm daring you to listen to this song and try to keep a smile on the whole time. It's a real downer.

Music about child abuse and rape? Seriously? That's the kind of shit people listen to nowadays, huh?

Making a shitty song about raping someone isn't music, it's worthless crap that should have those artists locked up.

You want music? Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, Thriller by Michael Jackson, Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel, In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins.

THAT'S real music, not wannabe assholes pretending they are tough. Give me a break.

Peace God

Well, I offered my opinion. I mean, you can't possibly think lyrics about those things are good, right? I made my point, and you think it was stpuid. Okay, that's fine, I can accept that. I can't accept having a dent put in my reputation for simply stating my opinion. So naturally, I'm going to be a wee bit pissed.

Thriller by Michael Jackson? Are you serious? You go from Queen, a good band, straight to Michael Jackson?

>Make a song about being raped then get get locked up.
