gashes...

so i was hiking in the woods, i jumped off somehting high landed tried to save landing by sticking out hand... tree branch stabbed into it so full body went down into it causing it to stab and gash my hand... it stopped bleeding by now a bit, but what should i do? i don't want to clean it right now it hurts too much..

it didn't bleed that badly, so i think i'll be fine, no sigificant amount of blood loss. i had the school nurse check it out today. she washed it with alcohol based stuff, and put anitbiotic cream and a bandaid on it, but she noticed it was red adn puffy, signs of what she says an infection... she also noticed a few splinters inside the gash... and told me to tell an adult if it gets wrose... what can i do to prevent/help fight infection?
