Don't get a 52x drive for CDs or DVDs because that's fast enough to rip your CD apart. They've tested it, and shards of the CD could fly out and hit you, so don't.

Ya, but if you watched Mythbusters carefully, it only disk that comes apart with no help is the one that they put in the microwave. The others they had to put them on a router and pump it up to 220 volts at which time they fried the motor. Even if it did happen, its a 1 in a billion chance, or you just dont handle your disks right. And the likly hood of the shards getting out for your computer is slim to none. You would have to keep your eye up to the drive for you to even have the slightest chance of getting hurt.

how many times have you watched that episode? and theyre gonna keep coming out with faster drives which at some point will rip the cds apart unless they make them better. besides, how do you know that no one microwaves their discs before using them, huh? and ya the expensive control cd did rip apart, and all of the others warped, and do you really want a warped cd?

Only retarded people would microwave their cd. lol. If people microwaved their cd's, they shouldnt even have a computer. Plus, the control was on a router, not in the actual computer. Even if someone did have a computer that could process all of that information, i dont think it would need to get to 52x.

NO the chances of that happening are extremly small I saw it on mythbusters, they tested it. They concluded the myth was BUSTED (as in fake)

Yes it CAN happen but the chances were extremly small, like extremly small so they declared it busted.

of course they will make them better. what do you think theyll come out with a 20,000 rpm cd drive and still have them made of plastic? ya right

the 52x drives go in excess of 30000 rpm, and cds are a layer of plastic, a very thin, less than paper thin, layer of metal, and a layer of plastic

sorry kid, thats seriously just a myth... u can have a 56 speed drive and the cd wont rip apart...

the ONE person who did have that happen had a very very flimsy cd, probably because they tired to make it themselves :?
