My laptop recently had a virus attack and it was going crazy saying that all kinds of viruses and trojans were on the computer. Now my laptop freezes about every hour and whenever it does work it's extremely slow. I have to look through my files and open up programs that usually start automatically. How can I fix my laptop?
If it helps I use Kaspersky internet security and I have Windows Vista.

Use system restore to make your laptop revert to a previous date before the virus occured.
You cann find system restore under all programs - accessories - system tools

That doesn't remove viruses.
Go to here (clicky) (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/) for an in-depth scan for any threats. If you are unable to clear any problems with that then you need to start thinking about backing up your data and restoring the laptop to factory settings.

2 things:
1. Is it free?
2. How do I find out which bit (32 or 64) I have?
Black or White

I would use malwarebytes anti-malware which is free, spybot search and destroy which is also free and perhaps get yourself nod32 which unfortunately isnt free.
Right click Computer>Properties and look for system type and it will tell you whether its 64 or 2 bit.
Best of luck :)

I have the most simple answer, Back up your important things (documents, music, photos NO EXE files or DLL's, they could be infected, and nothing from "Windows" or "Program Files" directories, they could be infected), Then Boot up from your Windows Vista DVD (or even better go to windows 7) And format the drive, that will remove the infected files indefinitly. Then scan your backed up files.
Hope that works

AVG or reformat
I have heard the newer AVG has problems, personally I would back up the files you want saved and reformatting the computer to the factory setting or the setting in which you had, or even a System Restore if it will let you (some viruses block access to it). Is your copy of Kaspersky up to date?, if the viruses are causing your computer to freeze then they must be in the Windows folder, I would also suggest probably downloading a program called Spybot; Search and Destroy, it finds all the spyware that you could have on your computer.

If none of the virus scans (and the such) work then just format your whole laptop. It should wipe everything, including the viruses, from the laptop. It means you'll have to start again with all your files, but at least you will have a laptop that works effectively.

If it is not a physical component issue, reformating (wether its from the windows disc or the factory hard drive partition from the main/bios menu) will fix it all by reinstaling windows completelly
even if theres no viruses left, those there once was mightve messed up windows

as I see you didn't receive a good answer yet...
1. Kaspersky internet security is worthless, use eset nod32. you can use the trial, you just won't get updates. if you want updates, there's a little trick which I can't post here.
2. windows vista sucks ballz. seriously, it's the worst version of windows ever.
put in short, reinstall windows (install 7 or 8), and install nod32 trial.
I know that you solved that problem long time ago, but maybe this info will help others, lol

While that may be so, it is also a fact that we don't allow threads with no activity for 2 months or more to be bumped. This thread is over 3 years old, and is far past the maximum bump date.
If you'd like, you can create a new thread, or see the helpful thread about viruses already stickied in this very forum.
