What do they do?
Essentially they send you on a "trip" like LSD does, which can last up to a number of hours.
What r the benefits?
There isn't any really. It is used as a medicine in some way shape or form but I'm not too sure.
If in doubt, leave it out!

if you trip you should definitely do it with some else just in case you freak out or something... and if u have a friend that likes to mess with u dnt do it with him
shrooms aren't that dangerous but i wouldnt do it a such a young age
and dnt do them if u have any psych disorders like bi polar, depression or schizophrenia

They're psychadelics so you go on a "trip", which differs from person-to-person as to what you experience but is also context and mood dependent. The only dangers I can think of are possibly injuring yourself or others while on a "trip", interaction with other medications or long-term usage can increase your risk of developing schizophrenia via drug-induced psychosis or similar mental illnesses. There aren't many pharmacological or physiological benefits, it's more of a way to have a fun experience, especially with friends, such as how social drinking or smoking can be beneficial for maintaining social relationships. There have been other documented cases where after using the shrooms, the users tend to feel more positive and behave in a more positive way, however, these feelings are not always felt while taking the drug, it's more of after-effects.

Due to the psychadelic and hallucinogenic nature, some people claim to have spiritual benefits, such as finding a higher being, which can better their behavior.
HERE (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/53164/psychedelic_mushrooms_have_spiritual.html)
However, the greatest benefit may be with taking it to reduce OCD and other anxiety symptoms, despite its illegality.

Well first off i want to say that i think at your age it is not good to start and kind of drug use because it will delay or stop any growth during your pubescent years. If you do try i will say the experience for me was; I saw a spectrum of colors everywhere and i felt good i saw goofy figures on TV i was with trusted friend so it was all good. I experience i won't do again, but will say i did and experience

i took an 8th of gold cap mushrooms, very potent, and tripped very badly, i was sweating profusely and was getting cold and hot flashes on and off, it lasted hours, it was so fucking horrible, and i had no weed so i was going through withdrawals at the same time, it lasted a day and a half, i ended up smoking weed at the end and sleeping fine, but the next day i was still tripping a little, it was the most terrified i ever have been in my whole life, not even my first panic attack was as scary to me
don't take the risk, if you arent prone to worrying, and are prepared to do some deep soul searching, then you may be able to take them for expansion of mind, but look up info, be careful, and take a super low dose, like a cap first, wait for that, then a stem, wait for that, if you dont feel like your tripping enough, take another cap, and leave it at that, you dont want a full on trip your first time, because you wont know what they feel like, my first times i took very low doses and loved it, but i just jumped to fast, i didnt have enough of a tolerance, and i wasnt prepared mentally,
i am now completely sober though, crazy memories, drugs will fuck you up

Mushrooms, they contain psilocin and psilocybin and this sustance makes you see hallucinations and feel conected with everything you see, touch and feel. It is not addictve though, and if they aren't poisonuos they're not harmful. But they are illegal in some countries, class A drug that can get you arrested for possession. Ehm..
if you have a psychological illness, if you eat shrooms it may worsen.
If you're going to eat shrooms be quite sure that you're in a good mood, cuz if you aren't, you may have a bad trip and that's so freaking bad ass.
But if you have a good trip it's beautifully amazing.
I've never done shrooms before. But in my opinion they're very interesting and I have like 7 months reading and learning mycology by my self.

A low dose of psilocybin (the hallucinogen in shrooms) has been show to alleviate cluster headaches, if anyone was curious.
They cause hallucinogenic effects similar to LSD, however I wouldn't say that they're the same. Shrooms give you more of a feeling of 'connectedness' to the world and your surroundings. If you take them, you'll generally notice a lift of mood and feelings of euphoria. You may experience 'deeper' thoughts and philosophical thinking (though trust me, once coming down you'll have realised that you have in fact, not figured out the greater mysteries of the universe). Some people will feel 'connected' to a great spiritual being during the trip, similar to intense DMT experiences, or ayahausca. You may also be sensitive to lights, or sudden changes in orientation or location. Like other drugs of the same class, time will seem to pass much much slowly; which could either be a great thing, or a terrible terrible thing depending on how the trip goes. I've also had an experience where I relived memories, which was definitely an odd thing for me.
I would not take shrooms if you have any history of low blood pressure (hypotension) or take anything to regulate your blood pressure. This can cause in unsafe drop in blood pressure, which leads to nothing good. A 'bad trip' can cause severe anxiety, so those of you thinking to go to watch a magic show or something while on shrooms should probably rethink that idea. Again, as someone else in an above post mentioned, if you have preexisting mental conditions I would definitely NOT take shrooms. They can exacerbate anything from schizophrenia, to BPD, to quite possibly even porphria.
Have fun.
*EDIT* - I forgot to mention, it's definitely best to have a 'sitter' (someone around whose completely sober) in case things go bad. That way they can console you should the trip go bad, and get you medical attention if need be.

Weed would put you in a better 'mood' per se, as it lessens the likelihood of you having a bad trip. While I'm unfamiliar with having a bad trip on shrooms, bad trips on LSD and DMT and the like are usually treated with benzodiazipines, like Valium. Not because they 'stop' the trip, but because they make the sensations/hallucinations much more tolerable.

im sure there's better alternatives to preventing/stopping "bad trips" but i would never take them
there's nothing safer than time, weed and some relaxing music
plus weed and shrooms or lsd go together like peanut butter and jelly
edit: dont do drugs kids, they are bad and i do not promote its use

You've never had an extremely bad trip then. :p Sometimes a trip to an ER is warranted if the person becomes violent or self-destructive, in which case the only thing the doctor can really do is give you something to relax you, generally a benzodiazipine.

true... if they become a danger to themselves and others then i guess it's necessary

the thing is, taking hallucinogens is never a good idea, there are some people that lsd really agrees with them and they have no problems with hallucinogens, and then theres my family, god we suck with hallucinogens, we get bad trips so easy, and bipolar is heavy in our family, you really never know what your going to get, and not everybody comes out of a trip unscathed, sometimes it can create temporary mental disorders, it exasperated my anxiety and marijuana withdrawal times a million, i'd say only take them when your ready, and have spent lots of time thinking about it as a serious life changing decision, not as a fun drug, i really wish i hadnt taken it as a fun drug, because the soul searching i did even during a bad trip made me feel better afterwards, even though it increased my anxiety, i had a few revelations. they can be very beneficial, but its not what the beatles make it out to be, never expect something before you trip, because expectations lead to confusion when you get your actual result, which leads to a bad trip, BE CAREFUL, this is a serious mind altering drug

Different names for Mushrooms - Mushies, Shrooms, Sack, Magic, and TNT (totally natural trip). Those are just from where I live. There may be different terms depending on where you live.
What it does - Mushrooms are a psychedelic drug, meaning that it distorts your brain making you hallucinate or "trip". Although this seems like fun, you could have a "bad trip" which is almost like a nightmare (sometimes).
What it looks like - Well, Mushrooms. Even though "Shrooms" may look different than legal mushrooms, they could look like some fatal types of mushrooms, so if you are dealing with the drug, you better be careful and make sure it is the right thing.
How it's taken - Consumed through the mouth. Could either be eaten alone, or I've heard of people eating it in cakes and such.
My experiences - I've only had 2-3 experiences with this drug. Even though I liked it, I would not recommend using it unless you have the required knowledge of the drug. Please note that I'm not promoting the drug in any way, shape, or form :P

Mushrooms are harmless psychedelics. They should be taken in small doses to begin with (i.e. taking one shroom and allowing the effects of it to kick in) and you should always have someone else present who will stay sober (not taking anything) to keep an eye on you.
They can cause major hallucinations at most and normally very alleviated senses at the least. I personally don't see why the hell they're illegal in most countries. The governments trying to suppress our conciousness again perhaps?
Taking them is illegal though ergo I can't condone.
