I just got a phone that has built in GPS.
Almost every time I fire up the Map application on it, though, it will incorrectly show "My Position" as several streets away from where I *actually* am. And I have to exit and restart the application several times before the blue dot appears in the correct spot, where I am right now,
WTF? Is it something faulty with the GPS device? What could be causing this? I don't like this it at all, because it means I would have nothing to rely on if I got lost somewhere. How do I fix this so it stops being wrong?

Hmm apparently, every one I know with a Nokia GPS, it does this. I'm not sure if there's any patch released but all I would say is just keep checking for an update. Hopefully Nokia is working on one. I have this problem with my 5800 too, right now it's saying I'm 6 blocks from where I should be and moving....It may just be poor connectivity in your area, like it works well if you're outdoors and not in an enclosed area.

So it isn't fixable? What if I were to go an exchange it for another phone, might another phone have it working properly?? :(
Noooo I want the GPS to work properly!

Well before you rush into that I would ring Nokia yourself and inquire about it first. I would make also make sure that you've set the app up EXACTLY as it says in the manual before ringing.

Well, both of the map applications (both OVI and Google) did this, and I followed the instructions and am positive it's set up correctly...
Can you recommend a better phone brand to me? One that doesn't have problems like this with its hardware? I wish I'd known about this problem before I decided to get a Nokia!
I do not want a phone that has things on it that don't work properly!

Probably just bad satellite coverage in your area. I have a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and the GPS is just fine.
