It's relevant because if you have not been diagnosed and are merely going by a self-diagnosis, then you do not know if you truly have the disorder in question or not. Consequently, you may then not meet the diagnostic criteria while others on here who may have been diagnosed do meet the criteria. You'd be comparing apples and oranges.
