I've had muscle spasms recently. Not necessarily what I call "joint" spasms- where your whole arm moves, mostly "muscle" spasms, where a section of muscle under the skin twitches. I usually get it on my neck area, or on my eyelid. What could cause this? Should I be worried? Does this happen to anyone else?

I apologize if I've used incorrect terms.
I understand I should consult a doctor for anything, but I just feel this isn't that serious.
If it helps, I'm 15 years old.
Thanks to all!

Are you getting enough rest? Maybe it's because you aren't getting enough rest.

I would go to the doctor if they get worse. I get them sometimes usually in my wrist if I write a lot. But if they are in your eyes and neck, it's probably due to lack of sleep.

Hello. (:

Majority of spasms occur for different reasons, ones specifically in the neck can be caused by multiple things, namely from an injury, stress, excessive use, poor posture, or, a bad night's sleep; anxiety or depression.

You might find that this might be from school stress, it might be from bad sleeping positions or the way you sit.
There's a few ways to get rid of muscle spasms in your neck; massaging it (rubbing it in a circular motion, get a freind, a proffessional or a family member if you can't do it comfortably), put ice on it (this will tighten the muscles, do this for atleast 20minutes, make sure you wrap the ice-pack in a towel or something, direct contact to the skin can be bad for your neck), if the ice doesn't work try using heat (get a cloth, wet it with warm-hot water, this will loosen up the muscles, a hot bath or shower can relieve muscle pains as well), or you can get anti-inflamatory medications.

Ways to avoid spasms is well, eat well and get regular exercise, always use propper posture and stretch on a daily basis, even if its while your watching T.V.

It could be because I haven't been sleeping enough. I procrastinate a lot then have to do all my homework at night...
Also could be my poor posture or stress.
Thanks for the tips on how to get rid of them.

Thanks for replying, both of you were very helpful.
