The weather felt like a pathetic fallacy. Here I was sitting on the swing, looking around the empty park. The wind moved the swing back and
forth besides me, and the trees danced around to the beat of nature. The clouds darkened the sky slowly, the sun almost gone and the moon supposedly full was hiding from sight. Then all of a sudden, everything stopped. The trees stood still, and the swing stopped dead. The wind stopped whistling, and the silence screamed. I got up from my swing, took one and a half steps and stopped. The chill of death froze me in my spot. Unable to move, though i tried so hard.
I stood frozen for hours, and the night set in. I lost my calm and waited for my death. Because that's what was coming, what else could it be?
I had to stand here patiently, because moving didn't seem like an option anymore, everything was frozen, I and everything around. The stars
came out, first time I saw them in the city, all the lights were out and for the first time I dared call the night beautiful. The hours passed and nothing happened, no one came looking for me, and I never heard a single sound.
When the night started to fade away, and the day began to wake, when the first ray of sunshine appeared, I felt like i could breathe again. It was a gasp
like when I rose from the water after a very long dive, and you breathe in, and it's pure life force entering your lungs. For that split second you know you won't die, and are very thankful for reaching above the water. That's what it felt like now, that breath of pure air, even though i didn't feel struggle as I took a breath, I had missed the feeling of my lungs being filled with air, and my chest rising at the action.
I looked around, the motions of things took place again, the trees waltzed slowly to the breeze, and I started walking towards home. The streets were empty, it was still very early in the morning. I didn't give it past five in the morning. I kept walking home, and entered, there was no one up yet, everything was quiet except the wood creaking where I stepped. I went up the stairs, and climbed inside my bed. I close my eyes, and let sleep take me away.
~o~
The annoying sound of an alarm that goes on for what seems like forever.
"Devora, get up before you're late for school!" yells my mother from outside the door.
I turn towards my clock and it reads 7:15 AM.
I looked down at myself and I saw my pajamas on. Though, I didn't remember putting them on when I had gone to bed. My hair was a mess, like I had tossed and turned for hours on end, and my tongue felt raspy, like I had had a drop of water for hours and hours. Yet, I still felt like I hadn't slept for more than two hours, and I felt slept drunk. Deprived of rest, but it didn't look like that at all.
So then I wondered:
Was this a dream or not?
