Get good actors. lol
I wouldn't just let anyone be in it (depending on how many people you need)
use friends who know how to act, and can act.

Yes, I make movies too so I can help. Take you're time and try not to rush. When editing I suggest using Sony Vegas, it's not very difficult to use and has a lot of functions. Also, when you write your script make sure you revise a few times to get the best script you can write.
