A public hearing is scheduled for March 2 on a measure filed by private citizen Charles Antonelli of Quincy that would ban male circumcision of anyone under the age of 18 unless medically necessary.
The measure imposes a fine and/or up to 14 years in prison on anyone who violates this ban. Antonelli is the Massachusetts director of MGMbill.org - a group working to ban what it calls "male genital mutilation."

I know this isn't globally ( I'm pretty sure ) but this is taking place where I live... So yeah. I think it's pretty over the top to get sent to jail for 14 years just because of circumcision

Something like that won't get passed since circumcision holds no health problems and actually does have benefits to it.

This is absolutely ridiculous! It violates the amendment for Freedom of Religion. Isn`t circumcision required in Judaism? Anyway, it won`t get passed.

They could outlaw the practice, but its not like someone couldn't go to another state for it. Or, it would be overturned since it would be the government stepping all over an ancient practice of a religion (judaism).

They said not under any circumstances may anybody under the age of 18 be circumcised, not even for religious rights
The only way they can legally be circumcised is if its a matter of health

That will never get passed, since it is unconstitutional. The day this gets passed is the day America becomes the dumbest nation in the world...not that it has far to go.

This made no sense to what you quoted.
They could go to another state
And it violate's one's rights to religious expression, since its is traditional in many religions.
Also, why is it any different from piercing or tattoos? Until I see research that proves otherwise, that is it harmful to a person, I see no problem. Now, is it someone's right to choose, yeah, but thats a matter of infant circumcision, not under 18.

I meant to only quote "it would be overturned since it would be the government stepping all over an ancient practice of a religion (Judaism)" But was too lazy to go back and edit.

The ban failed overwhelmingly. No one can do away with circumcision. People may have it done or not. It is the free decision of parents, adolescents, and adults. It is a private matter. It is no one's business. We have freedom here--both religious and secular. Please read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the Unted States of America. On Civil Rights, read Amendment XIV, Section 1 of the Constitution.

It doesn't violate people's freedom of religion any more than a ban on polygamy or animal sacrifice violates freedom of religion. Contrary to what some of you seem to think, freedom of religion doesn't give you the right to force people to undergo surgery in the absence of their consent.
