I hope that they don't do away with them. A stick shift is what makes driving fun.

In Ireland we just call this driving. Very few people have automatics and if they do it's usually because they need one.

Automatic is for lazy people. :P

I can drive a stick-shift, although I prefer automatic especially in areas where it's lots of stop-and-go traffic.

Auto for a commuter car. Stick for a going-out-on-the-town and a canyon-carver car. I refuse to get rid of my manual car unless they buy one for me though. It's too fun.

I enjoy driving a stickshift. It gives me something to do while im driving, and don't give me time to talk or text. I don't think I will ever have a automatic.

90% of the cars I work on are manual transmission. I really don't like auto's.

I almost always drive automatic (I didn't buy the cars :P), but can drive stick. I find stick a lot more fun and engaging and prefer it, but there are definitely situations (driving to work in rush hour with other things on your mind?) where you just want a mindless and easy drive.

Haha...no. But my best friend's older brother is probably going to try to teach me eventually...but I'd much rather drive an automatic. /:

I drive auto, I can drive up to 2nd gear but after 3rd I stall on a manual. XD

How do you stall on 3rd?? The easiest part is changing gears, it's the taking off which is the hard part. :P

I can drive stick shift if I needed to, but I can't really bother with it. I don't want them to get rid of it though.

I find it really uncomfortable driving with two feet so I'll always have an automatic transmission.

Because, after two, I forget where the gears are on the shifter, and seems how I'm a new driver I like to keep looking at the road and speedometer, nothing else.

I tried driving both manual and automatic transmission cars when my brother went through his first few cars. The manual car was scary as hell. I don't know why. I was terrible. Automatic transmission though.. Thats where it's at :P

More people drive them than you think do. I always said that I will never drive one, my dad made me learn on his Miata, and now that is all that I will drive.

i used to have a stick before it broke down. now i got an automatic and i despise the car for the sole reason tht its manual!!!! can't wait to pay it off and sell it and get a stick again. when u drive a stick shift ur actually driving. manual distracts me too much. stupidest invention ever

Your posting dont make much sence..... :?

I'd cry if I had to drive an automatic. I'd also probably end up breaking the car a few times as I'd keep trying to put the clutch in only to hit the brake instead :/

im a person that can drive any car effortlessly, i learnd with an old 5-speed jeep that had no brakes and i was 7. but i can switch from a standard trans car (aka manual) to a auto box car no prob. just like manually telling the car when to change gear and at what rpm to do it at, it makes driving fun. my friends dad let me drive his little manual econo-box and that was like a go-kart at 100mph. but autos have there uses to, like since i 4wheel alot i like a auto for if i have to hit the brake that second, but given the choice ill take my standard 4/5/6 spd all day. can't wait till me and my dad put our soon to be built LS7 in the T/A. to bad the spedo only goes to 85 :( never will get to see the actual top speed.

Nothing can beat a proper box but today double clutch auto boexs are just as quick and more eco freindly, but disptie padles it just isn't as pure as a proper 6 speed. its the same with "active steering" it isn't pure nither is abs or traction control.

I drive an automatic.

Ben was trying to teach me how to drive a stick shift and yeah, it didn't work. I stalled out way to much and missed gears and yeah, I like my automatic.

Over in the UK it is the other way round. Everyone drives a manual (perhaps that is why we learn a year later). Yes, it is difficult at first, and overall yes it is harder, but it becomes second nature to you over time and it is soo much better. Stopping and starting and having to hold down your clutch, feel the bite etc. can be a pain in the ass, but we get places quicker in the end and much smoother too!

Not to mention if you drive an auto you will start left-foot-braking in no time at all. I've been behind a cars that always have their brake lights on. Those brakes are gonna be toast in not time. Not to mention the terrible fuel economy.

I can't stand it when you are on a hill, and you have some jackass the is right at your bumper. When you let go of that brake you better press the gas or you will hit them. When I turn 18 and get my own car i want a liscense tag that says "I'mma Stick" :P xD

God...My mom uses her left foot to brake...I can't stand it....I could never do that...I've tried...haha. I don't have any touch on the brake with my left foot...it just slams down...haha. I just don't see how people can drive an automatic with two feet....

I plan on getting my CDL sometime in the next 6 months or year, so I need to learn how to double clutch, but it shouldn't be too difficult.

LOVE stick shifts!
Every car I've owned has been a stick,
I refuse to drive anything else.

My dad made my sister and I learn to drive them,
And now we both prefer them.

It gives you something to do and something to think about while you're driving,
And you're more in control of what you're actually doing.
It can make taking off fun... or wheeling more fun for that matter :D
When I drive automatics, I feel lazy and I tend to space out a lot.

I am going to bump my own thread ^_^

I googled stickshifts, and VT was the first thing to come up about it.

I hope they don't do away w/ stick shift. Most of the trucks in my company are stick shift, so that's what I've learned on.
