okay, take a person like batman. beats people up with his bear hands, yet never kills anyone. he is an outlaw. considered a hero to some and villain to others. what is he? can he be both? should ordinary citizens have the ability to enforce the law or take the law into their own hands? to me, there is no right or wrong answer. please answer intelligently though.

He's not a villan, lol. He doesn't kill people for the lulz, nor does he do things like the Joker.

He's a vigilante. In other words a hero of the people, not the government.

Ordinary citizens should not take the law into their own hands because there would be vigilantes everywhere and people acting on emotion. For example, George beats up Fred, so Fred and his friends gang-beat George, then George's friends retaliate and so forth. If society were like this, it'd be utter chaos. Batman is a vigilante, he can help others but maim others also. If society were composed of people like Batman, it'd be just plain chaotic and you wouldn't be safe in your own home anywhere in that society.

It's one thing to help police out, such as helping them bring down a fighting person but being a vigilante is something completely different.

I think we can both agree that Nocturnal-Eco-Locating-Flying-Mammal-Man is not ordinary.

Uncle Oh! Sam Ah! Ben London is a villain. He kills people for the lulz and to get the attention of the Afghani Tent(Afghani Hot Sauces((GirlZ!!))).

Robin Hood steals money and give it to the poor. So, what do you think?

At the price of beating the "bad guys" up and destroying property.

 Fair enough point.

I think technically batman is a criminal because he breaks the law but not a villain because he does it for the good of society. Villains do things for evil..where batman doesnt.

Tbh, i think the batman himself is a hero. He saves lives, but at the cost of damaging and destroying things. You cannot have good without a bit of bad, and vice versa i guess. That's how i see it anyways

Batman, although fictional, is a hero. Have you guys seen the incredibles or hancock? The super heroes are forced to going into hiding because people are paying attention to petty things such as broken glass. "Yes, you just saved my life but did I ask to be saved? I'd rather die then pay for a new window!!"

Batman has no wrongdoing although ordinary citizens running around pretending they're hero's by beating people up? Too many ways that could be abused. It would be utter chaos.

To answer Faris's question. The curcimstance is key. He was stealing from them because of the heavy taxes that were reducing the poor to the state that they were in. Many died of starvation because they couldn't afford food. Robin hood was a hero.
