It happens.
Probably the same reason men are supposed to hold doors for women, and women go first. Chivalry or something like that.

The man is supposed to be more loving. That's how society perceives love.
The man has to buy the woman a gift. The man has to spend money on an engagement ring and propose.
The man has to pay for all the dates and dinner.
Love sucks. But I'm pretty sure that there are some women who want to be the opposite role.

it's just considered "proper" stated when men were in chrge of everything.. women were basically nothing... now that we are equal things like this are eally weird to do, because we are so used to ok guy is in charge.

i also wonder this...i think that...since women want to be equals, and have equal rights with guys...they should take some responsibitlites

It's all based on history that boys had to do more outgoing things than us women. The one that comes to my head first about how gender was percieved in those times is that of royalty; even if a princess was born before here brother, the brother would take the throne just because he is a male.

It's called sexism. The stronger yields to the weaker. Ergo, men hold the door for women. Men pay for the meals. Men help women sit down. Men take the woman's coat. Men do all this crap because the woman is weaker than the man, and the stronger one yields to the weaker one. Not saying I believe this is correct. Just saying...

Chivalry. It shows your a nice guy. In this day and age you really don't have to do all that stuff but it's better to. It shows you care.

So, if I don't hold the door for my girlfriend going into some place, I don't care about her? Wrong.

Not exactly. It would be nice if the guy does it to be polite and caring for the woman.

You just proved my point. That it's a 'caring a polite' thing to do. So ergo, if I DON'T do such a 'caring and polite' thing, then I must not care about her.

Man and woman can't be equal… biologically we aren't and psychologically less so.
So, if I don't hold the door for my girlfriend going into some place, I don't care about her? Wrong.
Em you are wrong actually it does show you care. If you put up a nice act just for your girl and just for her it shows you care by tying to be somewhat better than what you are, just because it's her…

Translation: be fake. Be more polite than you normally are, thus not being genuine.

My opinion, what's the difference? If people want to follow silly traditions, let them. If they want to do it differently, let them. It's never going to change unless you get the whole world to join you.
