I've been thinking about going out for football next year, what's the best way I can work out and evenly build muscle if I don't have the convenience of a nearby gym?

Devise a small plan to work from. Plan exercises, e.g. walking, jogging, sit ups and press ups. If you do this often enough you'll find you'll be able to do more before you begin to get tired. Also keep to a healthy diet with plenty of the daily recommended allowances. To do these things it might be a good idea to see a doctor before you start. But football is hardly something you have to train yourself up for, you'll become better at it and more in tune with it the more you play.
